Add Support for latest version of FSR

Brilliant stuff. Anyone on RTX 3060 or 70 able to test and report performance?

When will be FSR 3.1 Frame gen implemented in MSFS 2024?

Disappointed this wasn’t implemented in 2024. Please do so.

I’m wondering if this topic needs to be re-tagged/recreated for 2024.

Hi @R3animate1251 & welcome to the forums
I’ve added both the msfs-2020 and msfs-2024 tags as this wish can apply to both platforms. :slightly_smiling_face:

Is there a timeline for this?
Nowadays a good frame generation is critical for MSFS (specially with add-ons)
Workaround with loseless scaling for now.. but native is always better.

Still no news since the last summer. Unlikely that it will be added to FS2024 before SU1.

At this point they might as well wait for FSR 4 which should be announced in a few days.

To confirm my own understanding, in game implementations of FSR aren’t essential (you can let the card and driver do it) but are preferable for better results?

Not sure if I follow, do you have AMD ? What are you using for Frame Generation?

Any info if current AMD cards will support it? it seems for the new cards.

Yes. I clarified for myself ( RSR, FSR, FSR3, FMF Explained : r/ROGAlly).

RSR is driver-level and game independent. FSR is an enhanced version of RSR that has to be built into the game.

It highly depends on your tolerance for interpolation artifacts and input latency. External solutions like AFMF and LSFG don’t have access to the game engine for motion vectors and the swapchain, so they will always come with more artifacts, UI issues and input lag than native solutions.

Personally I don’t find the image quality provided by AFMF acceptable. I haven’t tried LSFG, and while it seems to have far fewer artifacts, the latency penalty is said to be far higher.

It will use WMMA instructions, so RDNA 3 & 4 should be compliant. It is unknown how RDNA 2 and older will be supported. They will probably either rely on a lighter model with DP4a acceleration (similar to XeSS), or fall back to an FSR 3 algorithm.

I bought a 7900 XT yesterday (coming from a 4070 TI for more VRAM).
I recommend to try LSFG. I first tried AFMF2 and it was really bad. Then bought LSFG (3 $ on steam now), and its almost what I had with DLSS FG. Very good.

Ooh. Would that work with a 7800XT I wonder? I’ll check it out.

(When I’ve tried ASMF, other than the usual blurriness on avionics, I didn’t notice anything bad but I’m finding right now TAA gives me 90-100fps in most locations).

Losseless Scaling ? Yes it works. It’s day and night compared to AFMF2.
Didn’t tried FSR3 mod yet (I understand there’s a mod to make it work with MSFS 2024 even if its not officially supported yet. Looking info about it now.

Bought a AMD Radeon 7900 XT and can’t use in-game supported FG.
Is there any mention when FSR 3.1 will come to MSFS 2024 ?

Probably never
You need to use it in a tricky way…

In today’s Dev Update, Martial said there will be an update on this in next month’s Dev Update (March). So at least there is a commitment to getting FSR3 implemented in the sim.

To correct some of my (now proven incorrect) assumptions about FSR 4 I posted earlier in this thread, it has been confirmed that it will be exclusive to RDNA 4. This is probably because the algorithm will be using FP8 instructions. AMD have said that they will try to create a fallback for RDNA 3 GPUs as well, but it’s not going to be a large priority.

On the brighter side, they also confirmed that they will keep investing into FSR 3 which means there will still be some improvement for older GPUs.

The drivers will automatically update any FSR 3.1 implementations to FSR 4 (for RDNA 4 GPUs only), which means that FS2024 should benefit from the improved upscaling. Asobo still need to enable support for frame generation though.

Also, AFMF 2.1 should be coming soon (maybe along with RDNA 4 launch) with quality improvements, particularly when it comes to UI garbling.

Hey,

We still don’t have FSR 3.1 at the very least, which means new AMD cards won’t benefit from the FSR4 being introduced with the 9000 series. Given the huge increase in visual quality between FSR 3.1 and 4 and the demanding requirements of MSFS, I feel like it’s time to get official support for FSR4 and get some love in the AMD camp.

I am aware there are workarounds currently but I feel like it’s not much work to just add the latest FSR support to the game and brings big wins in performance for people running AMD cards.

For mods: I know there’s a thread discussing this on the install category, but I want to put it on the official wishlist for implementation.

Cheers!
