[Aerosoft] - ENGM Oslo-Gardermoen Airport

I’m sure you will, too…

Great scenery. The approach to either runway end is a treat for the eyes!

Great scenery is almost a understatement, this must be among the best airport ever created.

The difference from Orbx to Aerosoft was notable from first sight. Aerosoft version is superior by far, at all levels: texture, details, objects, night lightning, passengers, sound scape etc. With minor exceptions, like the check in area which has less objects.

Its a insanely good airport.

That said, as you spend your time mostly outside its probably not worth a upgrade(although I believe the outside is more accurate as well) - but if you are looking to buy its a no brainer to choose this version.

A useful comparison video, in case anyone’s still mulling the decision over…

Wow, a great comparison, thanks for that. Aerosoft is more detailed, there’s no doubt about it but at some places I thought the textures are too clean. Anyway, this video definitely convinced me to stay with Orbx’s rendition and save the cash for EDDF.

Yes, exactly. I also find the weathered textures in Orbx better in places. Just like the check-in area and the train station (despite the poorer resolution of the textures). Everything else is better with Aerosoft. The interior of the terminals in particular are even more detailed and the satellite images have a higher resolution. But in the video you can see that the difference in some areas of the airport is not that big.

For me, Aerosoft’s Oslo is currently the most detailed and beautiful airport for the MSFS. But Orbx’ Oslo is also at least in my top 5-10.

They look more similar than they do different. I did notice the clearance height of the concrete pillars that support some of the terminal structure is significantly less in the Orbx version — I don’t know the airport IRL but the height ‘feels’ better represented in Aerosoft’s.

During the airside drive you can see that Aerosoft’s is more detailed overall, but there are a couple of areas in which Orbx seems to claim the win.

I think if you’ve neither, Aerosoft’s is the obvious choice. But Orbx’s was recently half the Aerosoft price in the last sale, so that could be a determining factor for some. Obviously Aerosoft’s will eventually get discounted, too…

ENGM was finally released on Contrail earlier, for £3.50 less than Aerosoft’s site. Wasn’t able to resist…

It’s excellent. I don’t have the Orbx version for comparison but there’s little doubt that the landside of Jo Erlend Sund’s is far superior. The only area in which the Orbx seems to have the edge is the landside concourse (check-in area), which is admittedly a little sparse in Jo’s.

First thing I did was go search for the piano player. What a cool touch that is! The interiors of the piers are incredibly well done, and the atmospheric sounds are a real joy to listen to. Ambient sounds often accompany terminal interiors in Drzewiecki and NZA airports, but they are slightly better done here, I think.

It’s not hard to see why this airport is at a high price point. But the old adage applies: you get what you pay for.
