AI "Pilot" Engages in Cursor Mode and Messes Up Flight

No fix in the pipeline!? Is this a bad joke !!???

Has somebody already tested the beta? (We on ps5 can’t participate in the beta.)

Please please fix this bug. Cursor mode bug is the most annoying and crucial bug that needs to be addressed for console users.

Anyone tried in the beta? As ps5 player I can’t participate. Maybe it is fixed silently in the beta of su?

I’ve already abandoned this course, disabled that function on the controller, and now I use a mouse. Now, for those who are used to simulating playing on the couch, it becomes complicated.

Yeah, no good with a mouse while on the sofa. I pull up a camping chair near the TV and have a small foldable table next to me for the mouse

A mouse is not an option for us, who have a console gaming setup centered around a couch - what most console players have. A Game sold for console must be fully playable with the controller that belongs to the console. Full stop.

The maddening thing is that MSFS 2020 never had this issue on Xbox. When the Xbox version was announced, I was specifically worried about how it would work without a mouse. They came up with the Cursor Mode solution and it worked like a charm. Never had any problem with it. There was a toggle for the “AI pilot” in Cursor Mode, I disabled it and never gave it a second thought, I could operate all aircraft flawlessly with the controller.

Why such a basic feature can’t function properly 15+ months after release of FS24 is way beyond me at this point.

Why is this issue not prioritized over not such gamekilling issues? I do not understand the prioritization.

You’re spot on with all of this. It is a vexing regression that should have been repaired immediately, or certainly by now. As an xCloud player, SU4 has been the first release that has brought any kind of substantial stability to the experience for me, but it is unfortunate that I cannot really enjoy the product yet because of this ongoing bug.

Because it has only 59 votes. As long as it doesn’t have 100+ votes I doubt the developers will even be aware of it. And the reason of too few votes is that the vast majority is playing with a mouse. So, since it doesn’t affect everyone in equal measure, and not enough affected players complain, it’s not being worked on.

I was thinking of pulling my couch nearer the TV but thought, nah, might pull my back out so used the camper chair. Full stop

Since it has the tag bug logged, i am pretty sure, the devs are aware… but they don’t seem to care. Other bugs with far less votes are being fixed.

But console player usually don’t use a mouse. We play while chilling on a cozy couch. Not a mouse suitable setup.

Close to the switches and cockpit view?

This bug has frustrated me so much that I’ve just directly emailed customer support to draw attention to this thread. May I suggest you all do the same

Just a heads up that I’ve repinged the team for another investigation, as work was done for SU4 but it looks like the fix didn’t take.

I’ve just received an email that they’re sorry its taken so long, but they’ve just escalated it internally. Fingers crossed it’s sorted soon

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to say that I’m experiencing the same issue on Xbox with the iniBuilds Airbus family in MSFS 2024.

When entering cursor mode using only the standard Xbox controller (no mouse, no external hardware — just like some of you described), the aircraft sometimes behaves strangely, especially during manual flight. It feels as if inputs are being registered unintentionally, and I’ve also noticed moments where the aircraft reacts unexpectedly when interacting with cockpit elements.

Since Sim Update 5 is approaching, I’m honestly surprised that this hasn’t been addressed yet, especially because it seems to affect users who rely entirely on the controller — which is a large part of the Xbox community.

I would really appreciate it if some of you could share your current controller and camera settings, particularly:

  • Cockpit camera settings (e.g., Freelook Momentum, Cockpit Camera Speed, etc.)

  • Controller sensitivity curves

  • Pitch (Elevator axis) sensitivity

  • Aileron (Roll axis) sensitivity

  • Deadzone values

  • Whether you are using “Assisted Controller Sensitivity” or not

I’m trying to understand whether this behavior is purely a bug, or if certain sensitivity configurations help reduce the issue.

Thanks in advance — I’m really interested in hearing how you’ve configured your setups.:blush:

Everything you listed is on default for me. I never bothered with adjusting those sensitivities. Also, I tried flying with controller assist on and off, the AI pilot bug is there in both cases. I have this option off.

Any reply from the devs on this issue after Jummivana re-pinged them on that issue? I would be very happy about a fix of this cursormode-makes-planes-go-crazy.

PS5 here

I normally fly using a flight stick or yoke, but was experimenting with GeForce Now (Invidia’s version of Cloud Gaming) this weekend and for a while was limited to using a controller. While using cursor mode in the 172, it had a strong tendency to bank to the left, but I think that’s more normal behavior and not to the extent that you all are describing. I didn’t have any throttle or mixture changes.

But while attempting to get my yoke mapped I did notice some spurious commands showing up as I was searching for inputs. Many of them were extra button presses and axis movements that sound like what you guys are experiencing. This makes me wonder if something similar is happening to you.

Are you experiencing this problem with an official Microsoft brand Xbox controller, or is it a 3rd party controller? Wired or wireless?

It might be an interesting experiment to map your controls to a keyboard and see if it still does it without a controller connected.
