BeyondATC

I see the notification in BATC that they have implemented improved voice recognition, but I am having even more issues with it confusing frequency and US tail number readback as dates.

Is anyone else having issues like this?

The frequency readback has gotten so bad that I have to switch to the BATC window and tell the robot to read I back for me, because BATC refuses to interpret what I’ve said as a frequency.

It matters not how I read it back — soft, loud, fast, slow, huge pauses between each digit, say point, don’t say point — when I look at the log it looks like ‘1 03/02…’ for 132 and then it rejects this readback repeatedly.

Honestly, I have a few rare weird vectoring issues or being assigned an approach moments after leaving my departing airspace on a many hundred mile flight, but the consistent irritation for me with BATC is frequency readback fails. It is the one thing that comes up nearly every single flight that I cannot get past. I love using voice recognition, but it needs to stop interpreting any numbers and interpreting them as dates.

And, yes, I send logs to them all the time. I wonder what it is about the voice recognition system that it can’t be tuned/forced to hear numbers as just numbers rather than trying to interpret those numbers as dates or other.

I rarely see anyone here kvetching about this, do none of you have this issue?

I seem to recall that in Europe, if ATC says “contact XYZ, 123 decimal 456”, I literally have to use the word “decimal”. Does that fit your case?

You can read the Beyondatc.log file to see exactly what BATC is interpreting from your voice; I’ve found this helpful at times.

In the States it’s “point”, which I’ve used or not used (as suggested to me on BATC’s Discord).

I do look at the log. As stated, it is quite clear that the frequency and tail number are being interpreted as calendar dates. The result of which ATC rejects my readback with a, “Negative…”

Yeah that’s really odd, and I can’t say I’ve seen this. (and sorry, I read your post way too fast before responding, re: log file reading…)

It is really quite strange. I’ll read back “One Two Four point…” and look at the log and it has me saying “January 24…”, like literally the word ‘January’ is in the log.

Indian access is also way, way, way off.

As well as the current traffic injection options, does anyone know of any plans to add GA traffic, or if there’s anything I can do to add GA traffic on top of the existing AI traffic?

I do see some GA traffic at some of the busier GA airports, though not a lot. Too bad the week-long sample of traffic they used wasn’t during Oshkosh! But I don’t think there’s an option to specifically add GA traffic vice airliner traffic.

I’ve seen GA traffic even at LAX on a Sunday morning, and in the air en route over New England out of Boston. Not a tremendous amount, but definitely GA stuff - small private jets down to C172’s.

I’ve also seen parked/static GA aircraft at places like EGNH and even backwater fields such as Haverfordwest in Wales. Which reminds me, I’ll check the Traffic map next time to see if they have a schedule or just static types.

Just took the Austrian A320 for a trip from Vienna to Naples. Wow. BeyondATC nailed everything! The ILS24 into Naples was every bit as awesome as real life, and the constant flow of departing and arriving traffic added so much to the experience. I don’t know how I managed before BeyondATC…

Thanks BATC devs, you know who you are  Can’t wait for all the upcoming additions to an already great program!

Small question about AI Traffic.

Does BATC use live traffic data or randomize traffic by region? Or else?
Can I use BATC voices with Just Flight FS Traffic traffic injector?

Thank you

  1. BATC uses a week-long sample set from maybe a year and a half ago, obtained from Flight Radar. They investigated using live ATC data, but it was much too costly to procure for a paid product like BATC.

  2. You can have other traffic programs running like FSLTL, but BATC won’t be aware of the traffic, let alone control it.

Minor Update 1.6.60.Experimental
Improvements:

  • Historic weather synchronization for MSFS 2024 can now be toggled in the options menu (on by default)
  • During backtrack departures prevent next aircraft from entering the runway until current takeoff has completed. This was caused by most turnaround areas in scenery not being part of the runway data.
  • “Rocket ship” calls when wanting to change altitude are now based on the ceiling of the aircraft allowing bizjets to clear up to FL510
  • Player parking allocation has been reworked to use more of the available parking data from our real world plans and should lead to a more accurate player parking spot in most cases.

Bug Fixes:

  • When an approach / runway change happens ensure the planned path is fully updated and vectors recalculated, this should prevent situations where you appear to be ignored or sent to the wrong runway
  • Fix a regression where STARs / routes that directly link into an approach transition were still being vectored. They will now link correctly as they did on day 1 of BATC release.
  • Fix to vectoring where it was possible to never receive further instructions because the player aircraft had not fully entered the vector path
  • Fix bug in traffic parking allocation that could lead to traffic not finding a suitable parking spot on landing even though ones are available.
  • Fix airline pronunciation bug that could cause the wrong callsign to be spoken even though the written version was correct.
  • Further fixes to prevent being unable to tune to a center that has the same frequency as one of the ground frequencies at a nearby airport
  • Fatal error fix when player said ‘hold short’ as response to ATC for a runway crossing rather than ‘holding short’ or some other affirmative action.
  • If there is no QMH or Altimeter value available in the METAR do not say QNH or Altimeter in read backs.
  • The rebuild of simconnect_ws.exe no means overzealous AV scanners should not longer detect any issues and block the file (confirmed in virus total)

Airport Ops:
Updates for CYEG, EBBR, KBOI, KJFK, KLAS, KPNS, KSLC, LATI, LDDU, RJAA, WSSS, YMML, YPPH

You may notice a few other things that might belong to a new feature but more on that soonish…

That new feature must be CPDLC.
And ‘soonish’ means: when it’s ready, but probably not as soon as ‘soon’. Hence: soonish.

Would like more information as to what is preferable when programming turnarounds into airports. It seems to be broken down into four types:

  • Those with no turnaround area at all (turn has to be completed on the runway,
  • Those with a little bit of pavement to complete a turnaround
  • Those with deeper pavement that has a hold short line,
  • Those with a little taxiway loop - two exits/entrances with hold short lines, connected by a very short parallel taxiway

Hi. This seems to be a question better asked on Discord. In my experience the devs are more responsive over there. All the best

Here’s news on CPDLC. The first stage is released in the latest experimental build.

Hey all!

As some of you have seen in recent experimental logs, CPDLC is now out in the wild on the experimental branch in BeyondATC. Because of the nature of the system and the fact aircraft need to somehow talk to BATC, it’s not like our other updates where once it’s out, it works everywhere. This post will explain what to expect, how you can soon use it and what aircraft developers can do if they’d like to integrate with our system.

What to expect?
As we said in our post above, we’re releasing CPDLC in 3 stages. The first stage, which is out now, is to allow BeyondATC to handle PDC (Pre Departure Clearance) - currently this will work at every airport in BeyondATC and does not accurately represent DCL in the US, the process is as follows, you fill in a pre departure clearance request in your aircraft with the airport you are departing from and the controller will issue you PDC, once you accept that you’re IFR cleared and good to go. **Please note as this is V1 of CPDLC implementation, you cannot login to a station, any login will be met with a ‘Logon Rejected… Not yet supported’ message **

Over time, we aim to add more rules and features into CPDLC (and hopefully some wider features outside of CPDLC, Digital ATIS for example), ensuring it’s available in the correct places and the system is in line with real life as much as possible. V2 focuses on logging into CPDLC stations, and handling of appropriate ATC instructions being sent to the player through CPDLC. V3 will be focused on player request handling, where you can request things from ATC through CPDLC, for example altitude changes and directs.

How can you use it?
The nature of the system requires a bit of thinking with implementation, existing solutions work well for networks but as we’re not a network we’ve had to work directly with aircraft devs to get the plane and BeyondATC talking to each other - which also means a dedicated CPDLC connection option that you have to select in your supported plane.

We’ve been working with a couple of aircraft devs to try to get CPDLC to you as soon as possible, our whole aim is to keep the integration to our system as simple as possible for aircraft developers, any aircraft developers that do want to integrate with our CPDLC system we’d love for them to reach out to us through support@beyondatc.net - with that all being said;

We’re pleased to announce the Fenix A319, A320 and A321 will have BeyondATC CPDLC integration in their next update (out now).

We’ve also been working with IniBuilds to get CPDLC into their A350, unfortunately we’re still dealing with some technical issues on our end that means there will be a delay in launching this, but once we’ve conquered that, you’ll be able to use CPDLC with their A350.

Massive thanks to both Fenix and IniBuilds for their help and resources!

A reminder that as this is on the experimental branch, CPDLC is a feature in active development, there will be bugs and incomplete features and the system is subject to change.

We’ve made a dedicated thread for bugs and feedback here Discord , I would make some awesome video montage to show off CPDLC but as it’s a naturally delayed system, it’s hard to keep the momentum going while waiting for a response, so here is a simple picture showing PDC from the A319 instead.

Thanks all, have a great rest of your week!

Here’s a video explaining CPDLC a bit on the Fenix.

For my usecase, that was what was missing from BATC, and it will work soon on my 2 of 3 favorites liners

I hope PMDG and BATC will do the necessary stuff to support it too in the 777 fleet !

I’m wondering if FBW would be interested in this as well?
