Bluetooth headphone audio is distorted unless handsfree telephony is disabled

Hi
Interested in this conversation.
I just got a Zone300 Headset primarily for VATSIM (MSFS2020) on a dedicated FltSim computer. The mic is fine but reception very patchy and pretty useless for hearing ATC. The same result though happens for other apps like Youtube videos without MSFS even running, so does this mean it’s a problem with Windows 11, when MSFS is installed??

I tried the same headset on my other computer and it’s fine. THIS computer asked me to pair the headset which I did. But the Flt Sim computer never asked me this. Does this just mean the headset will no pair at all? It is connected and shows connected, but I’m not sure if that means it’s paired too…

Seeing the same issue, though annoyingly I can only get it fixed if I disable Handsfree Telephony and then also disconnect/reconnect the headphones. If I don’t, the moment I disable Handsfree Telephony, ALL audio goes away until the headphones are re-paired to the PC. At this point I’ll just use the wired connection option until this is resolved by MS/Asobo - which I realize could be a while given everything on their plate.

as a follow-up to my last, I returned the Zone300 as I could not get it to work consistently. Just bought an EMEET HS80, which (now I know how to connect properly) is fantastic. The order for connecting wirelessly as follows

  1. Ensure Bluetooth OFF, and Flt Sim off
  2. insert dongle, and turn on headset, the pair/connect
  3. Turn on Bluetooth.
  4. Start Flt Sim/V-Pilot etc…

In that order the headset now performs faultlessly, wirelessly. The set also gives you the option for Bluetooth and wired connection - neither of which I use.

hope this informs others.

Bose quietcomfort headphones. PC audio dies if I start FS2024. Low quality audio works if the handsfree output is selected. Significant issue.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Using JBL Tune 770NC, same issue as OP

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:
• Not relevant

I have similar issue in Windows 11. When I wear headphones, I’m unable to adjust the volume of the simulator by using the standard volume controls in Windows (or in my case - the keyboard). If I reduce the volume level to zero, or even mute the game in the volume control, the audio still continues at a very loud level for me. This is a major issue for bluetooth headphones and really should be corrected ASAP.

After reading more about this it seems to be entirely unrelated to the sim and all to do with how Windows handles Bluetooth devices with microphones. If this is a bug report/wishlist item, it’s for Windows, not MSFS.

Nice try diverting the attention. This problem does not exist in FS 2020. This problem exists for any bluetooth headphones, and yes there are a lot of us. It’s avoiding the mapping through the standard sound channels and should at least have an option to turn 2-way off, if that’s the case.

It does not exist in FS2020 because FS2020 has no native mic support, and it does not affect all Bluetooth headphones because Bluetooth headphones with entirely detachable microphones are just fine.

Best case scenario, MSFS needs to devise a way to 100% disable voice chat as this is the solution for other games that have voice chat where this issue is prevalent.
