Just for a better understanding.
The constant speed reduction towards green dot occurs only because green dot is in IAS, but climb speed above ~FL280 is in Mach.
Not exactly, best angle of climb speed is equal to the minimum drag speed (approximately green dot) and on a jet remains the same with increasing altitude, while the best rate of climb speed is usually somewhere between max. range cruise speed (1.32 x Vmd) and Vmd, reducing with increasing altitude until Vx = Vy = Vmd at the aircraft theoretical ceiling. Simply stated: Vy reduces with increasing altitude.
According to Airbus, Vx and Vy are identical on the A320.
Interesting, I looked up the best angle versus best rate climb speeds for the Embraer 190/195 and Boeing 737, both specify green dot as best angle of climb speed and Dot + 50 kts being best rate of climb speed (at low altitude). I can understand Vx and Vy are a little closer than in my graphs as the constant thrust with airspeed is more correct for a turbojet than for a turbofan, also green dot is not exactly Vmd in most cases. But they should only really be the same at the theoretical ceiling.
Found an old Airbus A330 FCTM on my computer:
“The speed to achieve the maximum rate of climb, i.e. to reach a given altitude in the shortest time, lies between ECON climb speed and green dot. As there is no indication of this speed on the PFD, a good rule of thumb is to use turbulence speed to achieve maximum rate.”
“The speed to achieve the maximum gradient of climb, i.e. to reach a given altitude in a shortest distance, is green dot. The MCDU PERF CLB page displays the time and distance required to achieve the selected altitude by climbing at green dot speed. Avoid reducing to green dot at high altitude, particularly at heavy weight, as it can take a long time to accelerate to ECON mach.”
YEAH,i got the same problems and i finally change the mouse setting to default ,so i can just adjust the vs speed for normal climb! This bug is obvious but never being noticed by Msobo ?
Has anyone tested whether the default A320 has better climb rate performance after SU6?
Yes, same as before - still hard to reach higher FL‘s - hopefully there will be also a fix someday fore it ( I am on Series-S)
To me climb performance seems to have become even worse through SU6…
Its annoying to climb
Still slow climber and wrong fuel burn!!!
Still great mod!!
Which mod? This thread is for the default A320
Sorry, wrong place!! Fly by wire A320!!
FBW A320 has accurate flight performance and fuel burn. I suspect you are doing something wrong. But let’s discuss it in the correct thread.
After the GOTY update. STILL having issues. Climbing through FL220 at 600 fpm. Managed mode. Climbs at 320 IAS which seems a bit high but even if I enter a manual number in the MCDU for the CLB profile I never follows. So frustrating.
Was fixing this on the list of bug fixes included for SU7?
i have climb issues aswell, trying to manage myself the speed and vertical rate kinda help but far for optimal, with everything managed is way too slow (tried the fbw and there’s a huge difference though I’m stuck with xbox hoping for a proper a320 which i absolutely love)
When this gonna be fixed , the only reason i dont like to fly the a320 is because of this.
Why not fly the FBW A320 then? Not trying to be rude, but what’s the point struggling with the Asobo version if you could get a heavily modified version of it which works better?
Because I’m (and many others are) on Xbox and the default aircraft is the only choice!
I wish i could get the fbw a320 but is not available for xbox
