Building a (cheap-ish) PC dedicated to MSFS

Hi!

I played a bit around with different fan configurations, overclocking, undervolting and the graphic parameters and I ended up with the following :

  • Fan configuration : intake on top (2x 14mm through a radiator), exhaust bottom (2x Corsair 12 mm “slim”)
  • CPU undervolted on all cores (-30)
  • RAM is overclocked with the standart XMP
  • no overclocking on the 7800XT

I reach constant 35-45 FPS (depending on where I am in the world) with 1% low at around 25-30.

All settings are on the standard “ULTRA”, i just turned off the raytraced shadows and the motion blur. V-Sync is on with a cap at 60FPS.

Temps depend very much on the workload, but the highest I got after 2.5hours of carreer mode was ~80°C on the CPU and ~70°C on the GPU.

So overall I am very happy, the FPS are sufficient for my taste and I have almost no stuttering (well sometimes the connection acts up and texture need some time to load). Temps could be better, but I imagine that with that small form factor + the X3D it’s the best that I can get.

Do not hesitate to ask me more details if you are interested. You can find my configuration in the messages above :).

Happy Flying!

Your temps are not an issue!

If you feel like OC’ing your 7800xt a little it is not difficult using the Adrenalin driver. Here is a great video to guide you.

I’ve used his videos to OC both my 7900xtx and 7700xt.
