While tow plane is certainly too weak I have managed to take off, getting rid of all ballast and ensuring that I lift the tail during takeoff helps. But after that, and this depends on the airport selected, the tow plane does not climb, just continues through trees and hills at maybe 150-200ft.
I have the same issue. I will try to reduce as much weight as possible and check if that helps. Strange because on the tutorial the tow plane climbs well.
It is indeed strange. But I took one of my 3rd party aircraft and hacked a text file following some basic instructions that makes it a tow plane. Problem solved for now for me at least but weird that they release such incomplete ■■■■ considering the efforts put in to the aircraft themselves.
Thank you for using the Bug section, using templates provided will greatly help the team reproducing the issue and ease the process of fixing it.

Tried with and without add-ons
Which aircraft are you reporting an issue about? (Please also add the proper tag for it)
All gliders. In particular dg-1001
Brief description of the issue:
The towing plane does not take off. On some airfields it shortly throttles up but then idles immediately. On some airfields it starts taking off but stops towards the end of the runway even though air speed is sufficient to take off.
Detailed steps to reproduce the issue encountered:
Place dg-1001 on any airfield in Switzerland including paved with selected air towing as launch method.
Build Version # when you first started experiencing this issue:
Yes as mentioned the towing plane throttles up and then goes immediately idle again. I can see the wingman giving the sign to pull the rope (waving his hand).
Some times it accelerates down the runway but stops shortly before the end of the runway even with like 100 knots. (sufficient for take off).
I haven’t been able to duplicate this issue. Are there any criteria other than:
Use DG-1001 (and is it specific to the airframe?), Any Swiss airfield, and using air towing to launch
Thanks
Well now I’m seeing mixed results.
I tried LSZG and the tow plane stopped before launching. BTW, runway 24L is in desperate need of a mowing!
I tried LIMW (with a couple different liveries) and it worked fine.
Then tried LSGG and it was fine too.
So for some reason I’m not getting consistent launches or failures. At one point I thought it was a livery issue, but that didn’t work out for the other sites.
But there’s something going on in that area. I didn’t check to see if it also had the issue in nearby airports that were outside Switzerland.

I did not have the time to check recently. But I think the issue with the towing plane just briefly throttling up and then going idle has to do with long grass. I see that behavior mostly there. You could try Lommis LSZT and Hegifeld LSPH. The other situation where the towing plane stops towards the end of the runway is mostly on rather short paved runways for example Schänis LSZX. How ever the runway is long enough for glider towing and the towing plane should be fast enough to take off but doesn’t.
I’m currently trying to install a new MSFS on a new Win 11 system. If it works I will try to see if there are any differences.
Thanks for the additional information! I’ll try those areas out as soon as I can (although we do have commitments this weekend). Interesting that you pointed out the issue with tall grass since the first thing I noticed about LSZG was that it had (what I consider) overly tall grass.
Regards
I had the problem repeatedly at both LSPH and LSZT, even though the grass wasn’t nearly as bad as LSZG at either of them.
Also had the issue at LSZX, although it really is a very short runway and the tow plane starts fairly far down the runway. There’s plenty of room for MS to move the tow plane further back on the runway, and maybe it would work right then.
