No they work fine with SF and Denver
I’m also using the seasons from Bijan, could conflict. I find it better than without Modern Cities but with “funny” things in the background
Dallas Downton CU10 vs SameScene for those interested:
Well the good news is, in SU2b14, with no other add-on’s, there’s no trees on that taxiway. So hopefully the final release will be good for everyone (minus any add-on conflicts!).
Regards
Thank you team! Can you confirm if this fix will also address the new tarmac/taxiway textures at KDEN? I don’t know if it affects all KDEN sceneries or just FlightBeam but it began with this release. This was MSFS20 BTW.
Yep, I am as well. Other than that the Denver area looks much better, but yeah, KDEN now useless to me. Hoping the update they’re talking about will fix that blur for my FlightBeam KDEN.
Just departed DFW in the PMDG 738 in 2020 and both the airport and city looked good enough (PC).
So it was until now… during all the hours not possible to activate the new PG for 2024 SU1 users?
Ok i just ask dont worry
The last TIN releases were abundant with flying blobs like palm trees, cranes or tall lights (Rotterdam inm '23 was the first TIN where this became an obvious problem for me) and buildings with sunken in edges (often between corners) or completely eaten away parts (seems like the tech has problems here with reflecting glass fronts).
Flying over the new SF TIN I now see a reduced geometry ressolution. Cars and trains usually where mostly sharp. They are now soft blobs. Large HVAC units and other larger roof details like staircases are mostly molten.
Because of the lower geometry resolution flat surfaces like roofs or facades often become a wavy mess…
Also: Very few lighted windows.
I would not call zigzag dark and light blue pattern on the ocean as an improvement. I did not see better terrain which is really needed at beatufiul place like Hawaiian island + my PHNL by inibuilds is unusable which makes everything even worse - avoiding Hawaii for now. I’m experiencing the exact opposite I wanted to experience with CU 10…
Neither did I, that’s because I posted the picture.
But to be fair: it was even worse before the update. The terrain is extremely decent, so I see no problems here, and the airport is inibuilds job to repair like it always was. MS and Asobo can’t test every single 3rd party addon with every update after all.
Some photogrammetry buildings in Honolulu get this green coloring in the evening light:
Not as much pronounced in brighter light:
Diamond Head looks fantastic now compared to before.
This though…
Yeah, was about to post the same thing, photogrammetry buildings turn dark green especially on their west sides in the evening. Judging by the long dark green baked in shadows it looks like the imagery was taken early in the morning, so the lighting is really bad on them.
Also, I don’t normally complain about “melting” buildings in TIN since I understand the limitations, but this really seems like a step backwards. The resolution of objects is just awful with broken buildings and tons of floating blobs of trees and streetlights at ground level.
And Playskool’s “My First Cruise Ship” isn’t helping things here. Really wish we could disable Honolulu and keep the other cities in the update.
Agreed, that ship looks so out of place against the city with it’s bright colouring, never mind that it looks waaaay larger than any skyscraper or rather an entire block or 2 of skyscrapers.
Does anyone knows If the Honolulu Airport from Inibuilds is already ported from 2020 to 2024 Library? Very interesting Combination with the new Honolulu PG.
Xbox Series X
Five years after the launch of Microsoft Flight Simulator, I think we can say that the photogrammetry system, applied to the flight simulator, is a help, but it’s not the definitive solution.
Since this technology was introduced, we haven’t seen much progress.
We continue to see distorted buildings, low-resolution textures and strange colors, trees, cranes, and other elements like deformed blocks.
All of this, combined with ridiculous LOD levels, makes a landscape that should be spectacular often look like a post-apocalyptic scene.
I understand that otherwise it would be impossible to achieve a more or less realistic representation of the world, as it is a nearly impossible task to model every element of the world manually, but I think Microsoft and Asobo should rethink this system.
I don’t understand why, after so many years, they haven’t established a system by which trees are identified and automatically replaced with 3D models (optimized and with varying levels of detail), instead of leaving those distorted green and brown blocks.
Another very common example: port cranes. Why not identify them and create a system that replaces them with optimized 3D models? This is what free add-ons like WeLove VFR (now natively incorporated into FS2024) do.
On the other hand, I still don’t understand why entire cities with iconic buildings continue to be created using only photogrammetry, with results that leave much to be desired and break the entire immersion.
For example, it’s unfortunate that a place as iconic and well-known as Alcatraz doesn’t have a quality, hand-crafted 3D model. This should have been included in the first Cities Updates USA!
I can understand why most of the small houses surrounding major cities are added using photogrammetry models, but the fact that buildings and other well-known elements don’t have 3D models seems like a bad decision to me, at least when this kind of DLC is released.
Some might say it looks good from 5,000 feet or higher, but when Microsoft promotes the simulator with all those marketing images and videos of a detailed world, and then you fly yourself and encounter the reality of the game, it’s very disappointing.
Finally, I still don’t understand the kind of quality control MS/Asobo has. Another buggy release (and there are several). In this case, the failure to update the photogrammetry data for Dallas and Honolulu.
I was checking our Denver last night, looking for Blucifer, with no luck.
From Bing maps it looks like this:
But in the sim it appears the area has been sanitised to a beige disk, but no hand crafted POI has been put in place. Possibly because none exists currently, or it’s not ready, so they just erased it, and left the area blank.
So the photogrammetry and blurry ground issues are still not fixed yet as for now?
EDIT: disregard. found in “my library” and looks like maybe the us poi is disabled.
Also that was the issue.
Thanks!
Somebody please explain to me, considering that the sim is STREAMED to us from Azure servers, why do we have to download a marketplace addon for this to work ? Why isn’t the new photogrammetry just downloaded to our machines as we fly over
Back in 2020 there was an absolutely idiotic procedure to get World Updates that involved what seemed like 3 downloads and multiple other actions (which was hugely unpopular with users) and I thought that the “streamed” nature of FS2024 would actually remove that.
Can someone explain this to me ?
Easy - you don’t have to download anything. The Marketplace process is for you to “enable” it for streaming, nothing more.
Now, why is this a step in the process? No clue. Could be so they can gather telemetry on those using it vs those who aren’t, or just a philosophy of opting in to new content whenever possible.
