An old problem. You can alleviate this by following ATC instruction. If the airport is towered, most of the time it will log, but you have to do things in sequence, such as requesting taxi to the active runway, and then requesting takeoff clearance. If you ignore all that, and just mosey on over to the runway it won’t know you have taken off.
It shouldn’t be like this but it is.
It’s a little trickier at untowered airports. You still announce takeoff, but its then its a gamble on whether it records it or not.
If you ignore the ATC menu entirely, chances are you won’t record anything at all, or a the least the landing only.
