DC Designs F-14A/B Tomcat Announcement & Discussion

Thank you! I’m used to just using the key binding on my controller and that fires every aircraft up… But not this one, interestingly.

A lot of addon aircraft use their own custom systems and the ctrl-e method for start up doesn’t work with them. This method usually only works when the aircraft in question uses default Asobo variables and systems.

Thing is, the F-14 used to respond to standard hotkey bindings found in most other planes. Now it doesn’t.

I feel it’s gone too far into the drive for realism when optional convenience functions that were baked into the original configuration are removed in subsequent updates.

Cool, I now know how to work it, thanks to the vid posted by one of our beloved members here.

It’s fun actually, and hardly takes a minute or two. The sound of the engines firing up… Hair raising stuff!

Those features wouldnt have been removed if Asobo hadnt changed the way basic functions work i.e the fuel system for multi engine aircraft

I wasn’t saying that these key bindings never used to work. I’m just telling you the reason as to why they don’t work now. The more complex an aircraft gets with every update, the further it moves away from the default Asobo variables that control whatever function we are talking about (the quick start function in this case). So what’s happening is, we are gaining more functionality, realism and complexity, but at the cost of losing the simplicity and usefulness of the default Asobo variables.

Personally, regarding this hobby of ours, I always say give me complexity over simplicity any day. I treat it more like a sim and less like a game. Although I totally understand that not everyone shares my point of view.

To make is simple, every single update, control settings change, and plane designers have to redesign their product to meet the changes. No one gets beta releases any earlier than the public, so they cannot any sooner than you, make the appropriate changes to their product and see how it works.

I have among others asked for Asobo to let plane designer’s setup their control settings per “plane” not a general assortment of hundreds of them. For instance, last time I had 3 days of messing with getting my speed brakes to work in CA planes and this one due to changes in control settings at the last update. For a while, I seriously considered just giving up. This sim is maddening.

Control settings in this sim are a complete nightmare in every dimension. Seriously – how hard is it to have a DROP DOWN MENU for different control configurations for a peripheral?

There is a control configuration menu. Its under your control options. You can configure as many set ups as you like for each controller you use.
I have Hotas, keyboard, mouse and xbox controller set ups for various different aircraft. I presd the menu button, up comes my options menu, select control options and pick which profile i need at the time

I wouldn’t mind if the profiles were at least saved in alphabetical order. But they’re not. They’re save in some illogical random order, and even that order doesn’t stay consistent. It’s keeps changing, meaning meaning we have to keep clicking the arrow button, not knowing when the correct profile will appear.

Yes, but that’s not what he’s saying. He’s asking for these profiles to be in a drop-down menu, rather than having to click arrow keys for an eternity to find the profile we want. If you have a profile for every aircraft, it’s such a chore having to do this. Having a drop down menu, or something similar is such a simple solution, and yet it would make life SO much easier. The profiles aren’t even in alphabetical order, which makes things even more frustrating.

Then that would be a question for Asobo, not a 3rd party developer.

Oh I agree. I don’t think he was asking DC though lol. I think it was just a general comment that went off-topic, as sometimes happens.

Dear pilots,

I flew the Aerosoft F-14X quite some time and bought the DC Designs F-14 at the Marketplace.
I would like to ask, if anyone can tell me where the paintschemes can be found. They are mentioned as part of the package at Simmarket.com e.g.
I fly the F-14 on PC, but I cannot find any paintschemes anywhere. Can someone send me download link?
Another thing I stepped upon is, that I cannot set my Tomcat to catch and follow any ILS glideslope.
I tried several setting, but none of them lead the jet to get a grip of the glidesloe and follow it automatically. I watched youtube videos, so I know it is possible, unfortunately neighter of the videos show what switches to set how to catch the ILS glideslope.
Can someone give me an exact switch list what to set one by one for approach/ landing?

One last thing that mixes things up is the missunderstandable label of some switches. On the right panel there 2 switches both labled ACL/ ILS. When I hit the lower one on approach the jet fires up the turbines and does everything else than descending & decreasing airspeed.

Perhaps anyone can help me.

Thanks in advance!

I’m a new pilot but this is what I do.

  1. switch from GPS to VOR when in range of your airport and make sure your radio is set to the correct freq. (see photo 1).
  2. Turn on approach mode (see photo 2).
I start my approach 100 feet below GS and I never miss it.
Note: “2 switches both labled ACL/ ILS” Do not switch on ACL. ILS switch just puts the GS on your hud. I hope that helps.

My new go to. I don’t like to use any addons in MSFS. Too afraid it will screw up MSFS.

Seems ok to me…. :). Although I did have one issue once, that @CodenameJack447 helped me fix.
