DC Designs F-14A/B Tomcat Announcement & Discussion

I entered my F-14 into trials for powerboat racing :joy:

One thing I’ve noticed, is the flaps seem to be controlled by an automated system, and I’ll routinely have 3/4 flaps deployed until I’m up around 400Kts, is this correct or do I have a messed up key binding?

Would it be possible to DM you tomorrow (off to sleep as is midnight) as I would love to set some myself so can use my cameras and still have pilot active but have no idea how to go about it, from files to edit to finding the right imput information to place right, yet don’t wanna go off topic or spam this thread with tons of stupid questions   thanks in advance

I am pretty sure it’s attached to the AFCS system as I tried flying with that off and seemed to not have any auto flap and I was having it despite flying with no assistance options on. I may be wrong though

All - If (assumed based on two different startup positions) plane is on developed airfield but at parking ramp, it will open “cold and dark” (KMGE-ramp small). However, if I start on active runway at location (PMDY), engines are running, parking brake set, battery switch off, avionics off. Regardless, I have legasy set for mouse, and modern set for simulator. In my madan flight earlier, while flying around, HUD just came on. In other planes, mouse works some items, but cannot turn on becon, or the landing lights in 747. In F-14, avionics and HUD master do not operate for me. Even after starting engines at KMGE. Believe my mouse profile could be corrupted, or some folders are not where they are supposed to be. Reading '“fix” is a tad bit confusing, but based on other planes buttons/switches not operating, think can rule out directory problems. Ideas please. If I delete mouse profiled, will MSFS create a new one for me, or do I have to write down all the combinations and then put them back in? So based on above, it also depends on WHERE you start your flight as to engine running or not. Others please verify.

Oh, plane’s name is tomcat, hmmm, tomcats in my experience are night hunters, so plane at night is a predator for sure.

Man this bird is amazing! and you can fly it like an airliner meaning the Auto Pilot works nicely, so I can fly it like it should be, or ferry it along, blasting off to Mach 2 over the desert. I never buy mil jets, but this one has blown me away.

I just did a lovely flight… Took off from a Carrier in the SFO area, using the hard deck pay-ware mod, forgot to take pictures. and flew to Nellis air force base Las Vegas.. and oh man was it a joy..

Got home, bought the bird, and have given her some flight time. I had high expectations and they have been met or exceeded. Great work! This is going to quickly become my new go to for fun flying and doing some of the trips that DCS doesn’t allow for. Major kudos!

Found the solution. The Left forward panel has Pilot mask / visor / GPU switches. If you first remove the interior crew members by setting their weight in the payload manager to 0, and then turn off the Pilot mask, all obstructions are removed.

Thanks everyone for the support!

Bob

Is correct due to Maneuvering Flaps and Slats that the real plane has according to natops, but we have simplified it for MSFS:

  • The real aircraft has 3 flaps positions and 3 slats position: 0, 10, 35 for flaps and 0,7,15 for slats. As you have noticed in game you have 4 levels and not 3. That extra level is 5 for flaps and 3 for slats as part of the maneuvering system.

  • The maneuvering system can swap flaps/slats position automatically depending on Mach and AOA and its function as you know is to provide lift at subsonic speeds and prevent stalls at higher AOA maneuvers. That means that the flaps and slats may vary between the 0-2 positions at subsonic speeds when required within a region:

Due to variable sweep wings there are interlocks to prevent flaps and slats damaging the fuselage when wings are sweep, due to that, if you are in manual sweep they will remain in the up position. In the same way, you will not be able to deploy full flaps if the wings are not in the 20 degree position and/or above 265 knots.

I just did exactly this and worked well as long as get past external view pilots having no mask at high altitude lol! Be cool if could be patched so that external model could show mask while internal when set to 0 hides it like the body. Is cool when can see legs in cockpit but for me custom cameras are a worthy trade

Hey Meridian, I don’tknow what may be happening to you, what I know is that I had to perform a complete installation of the game because certain things were not downloaded properly the day of SU5. What I can also tell you is that you can have several custom profiles of your devices: profile 1, 2, etc. Hope that can help you.

Just discovered you can use ‘Toggle Anti Ice’ to quickly toggle wing sweep which is one thing I was really hoping for! May be small but super useful so thought would mention one incase others find useful but also to thank the devs for adding this!

Is this the Miramar airbase? Couldn‘t find it on the World map yesterday. Is it a mod?

I’m flying in to KSAN (San Diego Intl) “as we speak.” Here’s where Miramar is located in relation to KSAN…

Yes, it’s Miramar…. It’s listed as MCAS Miramar (it’s a Marine Corps Air Station now)
ICAO code KNKX. The stock scenery isn’t that great, but better than nothing.

Thanks, I‘ll have a look later today.

Anyone know of some fun locations to fly this plane around? Was thinking of doing a trench run of the Grand Canyon tommorow for one thing. The F14 just feels like a power house of a plane to do fun stuff in.

I was actually disappointed that this hasn’t been given more attention just because of notoriety. No flightsim.to mod nor product available. I’m hoping that it will be included with the Top Gun DLC however as think makes sense and I remember Jorg saying we will see aircraft, carrier and a few other surprises so Top Guns base makes sense

Does the cockpit have PBR texturing? The screenshots and videos seemed like flat texturing.
