DC Designs F-14A/B Tomcat Announcement & Discussion

Oh I’m not doubting that. Just it’s extremely unclear how for a begging sadly when manual makes sound easy is all.

No sorry, the Cruise mode is designed to hide unnecessary information but keeps the VS indicator on the HSD. You can simply turn off the Cruise mode and then you will see it. Think that the real plane only shows the rate of climb in TO mode or LDG mode

that is part of the ACLS System. Here you have a video taking off from LEAM and then landing at the same airport with this system. Let you know that ILS landings does not work as it should in all airports, as well as, in MSFS there are quite a few airports where the glideslope is not well aligned with the runway.

Font is Amarillo by the way for most external text and canopy names

let me try later, it looks like it’s automated loaded into the ACLS in flight planning stage and only need to engage the LDG mode?

Not exactly. No. In a flight plan the approach system used is GPS or RNAV. It is considered a non-precision landing because it uses a lateral guidance approach system and you must make corrections at the vertical level and, depending on which case it is better to disconnect the autopilot and land manually (however, if you define well the MDA of that airport you could perform an automatic landing
similar to ILS by using VNAV, if that airport in MSFS is correctly simulated, so don’t expect succesfully autoland in all airports).

ILS is a landing system used for extreme difficult visibility conditions that requires you to manually tune the ILS frequency of that airport (you can do it with or without a flight plan and it is considered a precision landing because the guidance system is both lateral and vertical following a glideslope) . For example, the LEAM ILS frequency is 109.90, and what you have seen in the video is that I have manually alligned the aircraft with the localizer once i faced the aircraft with the runway, but I have let the plane land following the glideslope through autopilot (ILS CAT III landing) while I have regulated manually the speed (No VNAV here). To follow the glideslope you need to be in VOR mode.

right, but then how to enter the ILS frequency into the F14?

the same way you tune a VOR frequency:

Tune the ILS freq in stby, and once you do that press swap button and switch to active:

If the frequency is correct, you will see it in the HUD, the HSD and the MFD:

All well and good, MSFS has bugs in the mouse profile, cannot turn on any of those systems. If I take MSFS off PC, since cannot fix it, it’s staying off for year. 20+ hours to redownload and install. More trouble and work than necesary for my life now. F-14 is great plane, and it will mature over life. I have files, and necessary account stuff to reinstall later on. MSFS is too frustrating now for me, with systems cannot turn on. Have not finalized decision yet, but getting closer, but might wait until DX-12 release to see if that fixes my issues, but nothing has in past year, with ont clean install month ago. Thank you to all Hats off to DC Designs on great plane.

great, great tutorial! if I tuned the active frequency correctly it seems no need to engage landing mode?

Just verify you are in vor mode, approach switch is on to follow the glideslope when autopilot is on. The LDG mode button is optional and will simply let you to display the required information on the HUD, HSD and MFD.

On the other hand, if you decide to activate the ACLS switch, what it would do is ensure that everything is activated during the procedure: Approach on, LDG mode activated and DLC armed. The DLC will become active once you deploy the flaps and extend the landing gear.

VOR mode as in the AFCS panel? how about if I want the guidance diamonds to fly manually, will any button need to be depressed for it to appear on HUD?

If you want to fly the diamonds manually, don’t use autopilot. The NAVGPS switch tooltip tells you if you are in VOR or GPS mode.

It would’ve been so much better if this plane was released to marketplace too…sadly, hype will get over for me, so i’ll probably forget about it…
Everyone decides to sell their products on completely different platform so users need to update on 10 platforms…not sure what’s the reason, it doesn’t matter, it’s definitely not good enough.

It’s been said multiple times this will come to marketplace. Currently there’s been next to no updates in nearly a month so its not that people don’t want to, it’s that the support is awful and many people seem to even just get ignored outright for no reason.

Twas ever thus - before FS2020 there was not even an attempt at a single marketplace for FSX / P3D - my solution was a spreadsheet to keep track of freeware addons and what I had bought, where from, who developed it, how much I had paid and the login details for the site concerned.

The upside (?) was that sim updates were fewer and farther between so less frequent updating of addons was required.

But its all relative…and if you think about it, that kind of effort perhaps connects you the the level of effort required to maintain and fly a plane IRL? (sorry if I have gone a bit Richard Bach there…)

The update process is genuinely annoying, but even then the marketplace would still be dead last of all the places to buy for me. I’ll take the hassle of finding the updated files myself if it means I don’t have to wait weeks to get an update on a product I paid for.

The marketplace also has the worst UI for browsing add-ons, a nearly useless review system, and inconsistent availability of change logs for updates. And for planes like this one, there’s also the policy to never allow weapons on any aircraft - even as just a visual ornament.

A bit late to the party as I was working nights when it was released but dang @DEAN01973 is making me question my undying love for my beloved F-15’s…she handles like an absolute dream after taking it on the obligatory virgin flight through the Mach Loop, only had a few hours with this bird but I’m loving it so much…she’s quite the looker too :cupid:

@CromUK I downloaded it as soon as saw it. Feel its basically a crime to not have a Top Gun F-14 livery. Was hoping would get one by default but kinda knew copyright would ruin that lol
