Development of sim skunk works LOCKHEED TF-FRF-104 G

I tried the TF-104 in FS2024, but no luck so far.
Did you get the INS working? I can not turn the switch to alignment. I can not reset the generator switches either, so I have no working flight instruments at all. The engine gauges do work.

I found the same!
Lets hope this can be fixed.

I have the Marketplace versions of both but I also have both from SimMarket. I use the simarket ones on PC and yes I can definitely align the INS in both aircraft. I always start ready for flight but I first align the INS then I turn on instrument lights and nav lights, I then load tip tanks and fuel followed by anti skid, takeoff trim, then set the position and homing indicator to align with runway. I have been able to do this in both versions.
The INS alignment switch is set by slowly rolling the center mouse wheel. It works for me. I have also left the cockpit in locked rather than legacy so I see the blue highlight( not my preference but once I’m flying I dont notice it much).

I am using the SimMarket version 3.3.12 on PC. Unfortunately, most of the switches you mention don’t work on my side. They get the blue highlight, but they don’t do anything.

I am also using version 3.3.12 from SimMarket but everything is working fine and all my gauges and lighting are working as well. I can add the tip tanks and add full fuel although the checklist always appears faded depending on the suns position.
In these screenshots I am on the runway at Zweibrucken Germany with the excellent scenery from guennizw, during take off all my gauges including HSI, artificial horizon, airspeed, rate of climb, altimeter and all engine and fuel gauges appear to be working correctly.
I will note that if I put the TF-104G in the community folder at the same time as my FRF-104G the single seater does not show in my library. The models don’t seem to play nicely together at the moment.
I am mostly flying the FRF-104G right now as I am able to use my custom liveries but I have to remove the TRF-104G so I’m able to see it. They were both showing before the patch 3.
One last point is that in order to see all my liveries(they were really messed up after patch 3), I took the main layout.json and dropped it into the MSFS layout generator and everything worked again. Hope you get it working.

Many of the issues you’re talking about are issues with 2024, and not much the SSW can do about it.

  • The sim is now very particular about file sizes, and expects the layout.json to be fully correct on that front. So that may be what you ran into there.
  • I’m not sure what the status of a fix is, but the heavy scratching on windows is a 2024 sim thing for all 2020 aircraft. As far as I know, it’s not fixed yet.
  • The pilots being missing is again a sim issue. Though it seems to be hit or miss that they show up since the last update. At release of 2024, the pilots and copilots of 2020 aircraft was a deliberate choice due to issues with them not being placed properly.

Thanks for this information. Before the last patch I actually had both F-104 models in the community folder and working together. After patch 3 I had the livery problem on the FRF-104G but I use a not so common(overwrite) method to see liveries which I download from Flightsim.to. I actually made some short videos of the single seater and the trainer together using Airshow Assistant as well as a bunch of screenshots. Airshow Assistant is now disabled in the library. I still see a problem with the SSW TF-104G Canadian livery as it never seems to load with the seat visible.
For now I am just happy I can use either model separately as long as only one is in the community folder at a time.
Here is a few screenshots of the beautiful RCAF livery of 12640 MSFS 2024 by my favorite livery painting artist jocko417 (Thankyou) . I always love the SSW aircraft even though they have some different requirements to display the various models correctly (barcode .ini)
Thanks for the info on the canopy scratching.

We will provide a 2024 version natively developed including new features (tear&wear, dirtness, external checks, etc
).
Upgrade from 2020 will be at a discounted price (around 14 bucks).
cheers

This is great to know. I am really enjoying how the aircraft are responding to control inputs and especially the smooth trim. I am not sure why both models are working so well for me at the moment but I will certainly upgrade to the MSFS 2024 versions when you release them. I am so used to these aircraft over the many platforms they have been on, I just tend to kick the tires and light the fire and fly VFR just to enjoy the experience.
Really looking forward to all the new updated aircraft for the new simulator.
I am also very thankful that the SimSkunkWorks team is still working hard to bring your excellent aircraft to the community. 12651 seats were visible before patch 3 but were gone after the patch. I am sure I will figure it out, so I’m not worried.
Thanks so much Mario :grinning:

will we get some external stores like rocket pods, bombs and missles, too? I would love to have a recon pod on the belly and do some low level recon mission.

Are you going to fix the 2020 planes to work in 2024?

From what I’ve read from other authors, it doesn’t take much to fix them typically (although Jorg has said they should “just work”).

It sounds like the issue @Alienel007 is having with the seats/pilots is a node definition problem? You are using the same asset in both planes, but defined differently in each, so one overwrites the other and wrecks it for the other plane? Or maybe the different models have to be defined as different variants instead of the way you created different models, which maybe isn’t working in 2024?

Or is there not a viable business case for you to fix the 2020 planes to work in 2024 (no 2024 features; just fixing bugs like windshield scratches, lights, pilots, etc. so they can be used as is)?

Good to hear, except
repaints for native 2024 models are so much more difficult for community authors that right now I’m more interested in compatible models which can still be easily repainted. Would be interested in your thoughts on that?

I have downloaded updated versions of both the 104’s. I notice that the nosewheel steering is not animated and the turning radius is very wide. Is there a fix for this please? How are people steering this jet in the sim? I read sometime ago that the old Toggle Launch Bar command assignment doesn’t work?

I don’t believe that the nose wheel steering was ever animated in these aircraft. I am using rudder pedals for steering and use differential braking which works very well. The nose wheel on the real aircraft would have turned but I am pretty sure it would not have been able to turn on a dime. Maybe PaternalSmile51 could tell us if the real aircraft could steer sharply or did it have a large steering radius?

After running MSFSLayoutGenerator.exe on the default aircraft of the product the pilot reappeared. I don’t know if this also works for third-party skins. It is NOT POSSIBLE to do a cold and dark start, if you start from the runway with the engine on it is possible to add external loads and increase the fuel in the usual way. At the start only the engine is turned on and little else, so you will have to proceed with the activation of the various systems. Even if some lights remain on everything works regularly. I do not have radio and TACAN, but the radar by loading the usual Panda program works regularly but the image is very dark, almost unreadable. As with other MSFS2020 aircraft transplanted into MSFS2024 I found that the behavior in flight is much more fluid. The tests on the two simulators were performed on the same computer, but this does not mean that this is true for all users because my machine is considered by msfs2024 to be ULTRA range. Afterburner, airbrake, flaps and brake parachute work regularly, but when you reach the end of the flight on the layby as soon as you try to manually shut down all the cockpit controls/levers lock and you have to end the flight.

Hello, I am having issues with the SimSkunkWorks F-104 G.

I bought mine via the ORBX Marketplace and see some texture errors in places you wouldn’t really look at. Does this indicate a broken install?
I already verified the install twice.

As well as this error, the radar isn’t working. I heard about some files I have to run but I don’t see them anywhere. (Red panda or WebSimMSFS).
The RAT also doesn’t work if I pull the lever (Should it deploy?).
The sounds work and airplane flies (though it likes to veer off to the side like a propeller plane at times, tough to takeoff).

I did not purchase Zipper on Orbx, but being an old customer of theirs I have occasionally had installation problems. Usually (it does not always work) in these cases I go to the Orbx back up folder and delete the affected files. These are used to speed up the loading from the server but if some files are corrupted the problem occurs again. So I uninstall the product from Orbx central, close it and restart the simulator, this should reset the references to the product. I exit the simulator and reinstall the product. This is a general management of the problem that applies to all simulators (FSX, P3D, MSFS). If this procedure does not work the problem is of another type and you need to contact support
 Good luck

About the radar: it is all in the manual frf104g_hints.pdf, which can be found in de ‘documents’ folder. Page 11.
Unfortunately, the program WebSimMSFS.icon.exe can only be found in the tf104g. It disappeared from the frf104g.

I fixed the radar, I had to browse through this thread and manually download that WebSim program, it was not included in the ORBX download at all.
The pink textures there don’t matter much given you dont really look there but I am curious if anyone else has it.
But it’s the F-104G , the one seater, I do not have the two-seater.

I still cant move the NAV switch to do the alignment
if I hover my mouse over the knob I can see the rotation arrow
but no matter what button / scroll wheel I use it will not move!

Other than that it flies beautifully in 2024!
