Discussion: E3 Announcement

I do fear a bit for the PC version if this XBox version is a success… we’ll have to wait and see…

Am I saying that ? Wow

I can’t break out of this excitement woohoo.

definitely yeah. I do still have hope, I bought the game at launch and I have seen some improvements. I do still think if you are looking for a proper simulator we have to go to other places which i will not name but the phonetic alphabet donates it as x-ray and its another word for an aircraft.

I don’t think there will be a difference.

Until buying a series X, I wasn’t a firm believer in it’s hardware or ability in 4k gaming. However, after owning one for two weeks now it’s unreal just how good it is. The optimized series x games are ridiculously good.

But surely the only thing thats getting in the way of it being a ‘proper’ sim is that for performance reasons there’s isn’t anything close to study level aircraft? Once all these Xbox related optimisations come to PC there will be performance headroom for devs to create study level aircraft in the future? Therefore you could say the console version points it in the direction of it becoming MORE of a proper sim.

Don’t talk drivel

That floatplane, is that an existing payware, or is it a silent announcement of something new we will get with the next update?

Looks a lot like Bush League Legends: Bush League Legends - MSFS Aircraft

There is a free mod for exactally that, including floats and skis for the x-cub

MSFS is being designed for everyone at every level. … beginner, intermediate and advanced. You can push it in any direction you want. It is beautifully thought out and balanced for all.

totally agree with your statement. Do you know what performance upgrades are planned? From what I can see small improvements here and there but nothing significant. I understand DX12 is coming with release of Xbox but apparently that won’t result in any fps boosts.

the teaser video is kinda work of art… I honestly like it. now let’s focus on in what direction we’ll be going after the xbox release. I’m hopeful for the better.

They’ve promised big performance improvements right across the board but we’ll just have to wait and see what the means in reality. Just going by that trailer though it sure looks like lots of good things are now possible.

Funny, in one of the first Q&As Seb said DX12 will not bring the big performance increase the community was hoping for. Of course it was ignored and the hopes got worse.

Yea but even tho it was recorded on XBOX they probably have some NASA status software to make it better and more smooth that one can only imagine how it works

The big performance improvements haven’t come from DX12 in itself but rather them working out how to spread out the workload and get more out of the CPU. They said in the most recent Q+A that flight instruments are now being processed by a completely sperate core on the CPU, which results in BIG net performance gain. Its not DX12 but its sort of similar I guess.

Of course, they said last year that effects / particles will come with DX12. So it’s not a surprise, just a promise kept (that’s the surprise !)

Yeah, i was about to ask if someone knows what Plane that is.

As always, things can change. Since then Seb himself has made numerous comments in several Q&As about significant performance optimisations made during their work on implementing DX12 for the Xbox version. Just for example - 4x speed up in trees, significant memory usage improvements, moving glass cockpit displays to their own thread, improvements in streaming etc.

I believe the comment was more in regard to just switching to DX12 won’t see performance improvements, which is very true. However during their work they have found many optimisations along the way… this also ignores advanced DX12U features like mesh shaders, sampler feedback, variable rate shading, direct storage etc which will all now be available to them due to the move away from DX11 (although certainly may not be implemented straight away, I hope we will see them used at some point!).

In the most recent Q&A both him and Jorg referenced performance improvements coming with the Xbox/DX12/SU5 release. Jorg was in fact a bit giddy about how well it was running . You will perhaps note the wording in fact from their recent (June 3rd) blog update too:

“Would you like to participate in our next flighting opportunity? We have made significant updates and data changes to the sim and need a variety of PC setups to help test stability and performance. This build does not include any content changes but has significant performance updates we’d love for you to try out and provide feedback on.”
