Do you have contacted Mr. Marc Seguin? (Lead aircraft designer)
This guy wasn’t with Asobo in the early MSFS days AFAIK.
The DV20 is just a tiny example of what’s wrong with the simulation part of this flying game.
It’s the first time since the MS flightsim series exist that I don’t have an MS flightsim installed. As an flight dynamics designer since decades, MSFS is unfortunately unacceptable for me.
Thank you for the long answer! What sim do you fly? If any? I flew many hours in taildraggers (Super Cub, Bellanca Decathlon, Super Dimona), was sales pilot at HOAC from 92 to 95. At the moment I practice in the XCub, in my opinion the flight characteristics of a taildragger are quite well implemented.
Has Xplane a better physics? And one last question: As an engineer, in developer mode can you modify the DV20 accordingly?
I inted to make a YT channel “OE-AKL A contemporary document”. How to become sufficient in flying. And it would be fine if I could “teach” in the plane I flew most.
The AKL was S/N 4 and named by myself.
Thanx for your reply!
Andreas KLement
I will try to contact this guy and tell him my story. This particular model is so far off from reality, it’s a shame.
I could give him first hand data, ![]()
X-plane isn’t much better. The best flight models could be achieved with the table based sims like FSX and P3D.
Occasionally I fly DCS and sometimes Aerofly.
Not too much time for simming since I’m using most of it for creating airplane art with blender:
No, unfortunately you can’t really fix the broken basic aerodynamics since the SDK is still unfinished, the automatically calculated values and data are partially completely unrealistic etc.
Can’t remember the xcub specifically. Have you tried flying/landing any airplane in MSFS in e.g. a 10kt xwind, loop or spin any of the GA airplanes?
Very interesting story about the AKL. I still remember when the DV-20 was brand new and the HOAC pilots performed consecutive loops starting well below 50ft at LOGO.
(The default C-152 can be looped from level flight with an entry speed of less than 90kts AFAIR)
Pretty sure that I’ve seen AKL lately since I’m living in the vicinity of LOAN and I’m visiting the airport quite often. ![]()
Hi, thank you for answering!
Beside the DV20 I only tried the C150 and the GotGrravel Cub so far. The stall characteristics of the C150 are bad, too. In reality a DV20 you can spin precisely (was part of my airshow display program). If you only pull back she doesnt spin at all, even if you use full(!) ailerons. Same in full power stall. In the sim the C150 is well behaved and the DV20 is a ■■■■■.
Xhances are good that you saw me in the AKL,
.
You make fine art!
Thank you ![]()
You might want to try this mod:

Hi, thank you, tried it out.
The glideslope is too high.
Resistance of flaps too low.
My landing procedure:
Prop high, full flaps, flare some inches above ground and full RETRACT flaps.
Wheel steering authority ASAP.
When I retract flaps in the sim, flaring starts again.
Elevator inputs during flaring way to sensitive.
Implement improved in some ways. But still got a way to go, ![]()
Thanks for the feedback. Just to confirm, you retract the flaps during the flare???
Confirm. Why? You only need lift when airborne. Inches above ground retract flaps (full), compensate with a tiny pull on the stick and that’s it. You dont need lift when you are rolling. Very helpful during crosswind landings and on hot summer days, when you have micro thermics on a tarmac runway. Showed this on almost every demo flight, but people are so stuck in their minds… ![]()
Stuck in their minds? Hm. In more than 17000hrs in more than 40 years of flying I’ve never heard about retracting the flaps while airborne.
Pulling the stick back at a very low height just rotates the maingear down and slams it onto the runway. A big no go on larger airplanes and that’s without retracting the flaps.
Plus the fact that you need to remove the hand from the throttle during the flare.
I think that this ‘procedure’ can only be recommended if you know your airplane extremely well.
You MUST know the plane you’re flying inside out.
Just watch the bush pilots do it.
For the big birds there are different procedures.
A taildragger is a completely differnt story and this can’t be compared IMO. Since the main gear is forward of the center of lift, the gear rotates up instead of down when pulling the stick back. Furthermore dropping a plane with bushwheels from a few inches doesn’t hurt the plane.
Worked with a DV20 as well as with a PA18, ![]()
Watch birds landing. As soon as the feet are on the ground, the whole wing gets folded in, smile.
As soon as I have my new machine I will post some clips on YT. Send you the link if you like.
I’d appreciate that ![]()
You are welcome!
Hi, after reinstalling FS to my new PC (pain in the a..), everything works fine! Here my first test video. Watch the flaps action. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/qLcrGdL9ENU
FYKI: the latest version of the realism mod became a lot better:
