The sim will use what ever you have. The more the better especially in 4K . You need a 4 series card.
The 4090 sure is tempting, but not the kind of expense I want to be doing right now.
In terms of fps alone my 3080 is still doing a fairly decent job at 4K, in a combination of high and ultra settings, even without DLSS most of the times.
What bugs me the most itâs what I described in the initial post, in more extreme situations and heavy scenarios there is a big stuttering when panning views.
I also experience at times, some delay in loading ground textures, flying at lower altitudes, the terrain texture and objects will be updating gradually area by area over time rather than instantly.
By the way, I set terrain and objects level of detail usually somewhere between 100 to 130.
My assumption is that it could be related to VRAM, but I never had the chance to try a 3090 to switch back and forth and do a direct comparison.
Try disabling precaching with enabled 0 quality 0 in UserCfg. I find it helps but I guess everyoneâs system is different. Be warned! this will reset and enable precaching to low if you make any changes to graphics options later. I know you can but I donât recommend setting the config read only as it will cause problems for updates.
Thanks for the tip. I shall give it a try when I have some time.
What do you mean it will reset precaching ?
I could always put change the UserCfg file as it was before or create a backup copy to revert back, or is that not enough ?
Because if you disable caching in this manner it will be shown as low in the options menu, saving and applying any graphic setting at anytime after that will re-enable precaching but keep the low 0 setting. I did try enabled 0 quality 3 which would at least set it ultra but Iâm not sure it worked so well.
And no not really, if (as they do occasionally) Asobo changed the format of the Cfg your backup would probably cause all sorts of problems. Setting read only could have the same effect although I think maybe the devs are now wise to that and will delete and rebuild your Cfg regardless.
I know this thread is old but I feel that I needed to earn others. With payware airports my 4080âs 16gb of vram just isnât enough. With this sim Iâd rather have a 3090 than a 4080.
I have a 4080S ultrawide 1440p. I am guessing youâre playing @4K? 4K will definitely eat up 16gb!
I started this post, when at the time I had a 3080 with only 10GB and definitely short on VRAM.
Iâve then switched to a 4090, which yes is a dream of a GPU, but not worth the cost, as most of the time I was limited by the CPU (5800 X3D).
So I returned it and got an used 3090, which is been more than suitable for my usage.
16GB Vram can be eaten quickly with 3rd party detailed aircraft and heavy or not optimised scenery, so having 24 GB IMO is very recommended for MSFS.
Note I play at 4K.
Not having DLSS3 with the 3090 is not a major disadvantage for me, after trying it with the 4090.
The sim suffers more from low fps (20-25) when is limited by the CPU. DLSS 3 could double that but itâs still not ideal and it still does not feel smooth because native fps are low.
Basically, although DLSS 3 can help, it works best when there is less need for it.
I have a 3090 Ti and it can use DLSS 3. So can your 3090.
DLSS 3.0 has three components:
- DLAA / Super Resolution
- Ray Reconstruction
- Frame Generation
The first two are supported in 20xx-series, 30xx-series, and 40xx-series nVidia cards. You need a 40xx-series card to get the 3rd option.
Even if we canât do Frame Gen, I recommend using DLSS Swapper to upgrading to DLSS 3.7.10.
I also recommend installing nVidia Profile Inspector and configuring it following this video. Be careful with this. Do not change any settings other than the ones he specifically mentions.
When I mentioned DLSS 3 in my previous post , I was actually referring only to the frame generation.
I thought so. But there are some who think DLSS 3 only refers to Frame Gen and avoid updating from DLSS 2 because they donât think it applies to their GPU.
Are you going to consider nVidia Profile Inspector? His video shows you how to unlock DLAA Level E.
No. Too much of a hassle, especially when I donât need to.
LOL
I live on âwantsâ not âneeds.â
I just sold my 3090 for a 4070 TI Super until the 5000 series come out (I wanted native Fr@me G3n), I game in 4K as well with MSFS..will I really suffer from the 16GB of Vram? is there any benchmarks available in terms of actuall vram usage?
I can only say about my subjective experience and in non controlled situations.
Having said that, it is only in highly stressing situations that you will get close or over 16 GB.
This could be a combination of a payware detailed aircraft like the Fenix A320, in a 3rd party detailed airport or low flight over very detailed scenery and traffic addons.
With some freeware scenery that you find on flightsim.to consisting of multiple downloads with several GB each, you end up with a poorly optimized scenery, that FS will have difficulty to load in real time as you fly, and will eat away VRAM sometimes easily passing 16GB.
Typically it uses between 10 GB to 14 GB, even with the Fenix in most situations.
Hmm thatâs disappointing to hear âŠespecially since nvidia refuses to give the higher end 70 + more than 16 ..unless you spend 2k
Not baiting here, but since the game itself lists ârecommended specsâ at 4GB VRAM, why are systems with 10+ struggling to cope?
Iâve said it before - âMinimum Specsâ means absolutely NOTHING.
Itâs a travesty.
RECOMMENDED SPECS.
Minimum specs are 2Gb. Recommended specs are 4Gb. Why recommend something that people are accusing of being well below minimum usability? Why not recommend 8GB or something?
It is what is it.
The sim will run at minimum specs, but itâs long way going from flying a Cessna 152 at 720p low graphic settings to the Fenix A320 at 4K high/ultra settings in detailed scenery.
