They finally arrived today For the cost they seem to be very nice little monitors, aluminium frame and pretty nicely finished.
Only had enough time to plug it all in and power up, popped out a CJ4 PFD and slid it over - very nice and clear
One odd thing - if i touch the PFD pop-out the yoke camera view buttons seem to stop working unless i click back on the main screen. No idea if thats a thing or just an odd observation?
That’s a known bug in the sim that’s been reported since launch and is still alive and well. It’s not just the camera view. It’s ALL inputs - yoke, pedals, throttles, etc.
Also keep in mind the sim has no native touch screen support, so by default, things like the GTC on the TBM or Longitude, the G3X and GTN750 won’t work. Touching their screens will just kill your controls as you’ve already discovered.
HOWEVER…
I would strongly recommend using the Popout Manager at the link below. You can setup particular layouts and it will pop out and place the screens for you automatically. Also, if you’re using one of the aforementioned touch-enabled systems, you can configure those screens to have touch input via a touch to mouse click emulator. And after you touch, it will return focus to the sim window so you don’t encounter that problem of your controls cutting out.
Yeah, it’s a big bug. It’s just not being actioned. You don’t even have to give said popout window active focus. All you have to do is move your mouse within its bounds and you lose all your physical inputs until it leaves that window.
And the popout manager is beyond useful. All that having to pop out windows and then place them, resize them, etc is all done automatically. Setup is pretty easy. You define where the screens are to be popped out. It pops them out. You place / size them, and it saves that. Next time you load up that plane, it will automatically pop out and place the windows for you in about 5 seconds.
Air Manager is fine. It only affects you if you touch the actual popout window itself. So you can use the G1000 bezel, CJ4 MCDU, etc without issue. Once you know not to touch the screen portion itself, you won’t see this problem manifest itself.
And no. You can run Air Manager and set up your panels without the sim running. No problem at all there.
If you haven’t seen this thread already, I would highly recommended it for free Air Manager instruments. Some of the stuff we’ve produced (like the CJ4 suite, the G1000 NXi, Kodiak suite) are already natively in Air Manager. But we’ve got a lot of stuff there that’s not yet released to AM natively. You’ll find a link to our GitHub page where you can download all our stuff (nicely categorized by plane type). And if you’re a Discord user, there’s a link to our server as well, which has a great, friendly, helpful community of Air Manager users that can help you out if you need assistance with something.
If you use POPM it has a built in solution for this bug. If using the pseudo touch it provides it will return mouse focus to the main sim window immediately after the popout touch. This tool alone is a must for this kind of setup. @RoastGnu the dev has done a brilliant job with it.
Just a quick question for all you guys who do the 3 monitor setup…are you using the multi-window/render experimental option in MSFS? Or are you just dragging the one window across all 3 monitors? I tried the multi view/render option and it took FPS from 60 down to about 32. Still playable for sure, but when I just drag the one screen across all 3 it only drops to about 50fps. I do notice, though, perspective is off on the two side monitors when climbing…so there’s that.
Just curious how everyone is doing it and if you experience fps loss using multi-window as well!
