Helicopter rotor washout / Intense dust effect, snow effect kills FPS during takeoff and landing (-15 FPS)

it has still been bad in SU1

I really appreciate @SmokinHole1 's feedback! Currently the R66 goes into a brown-out even over tarmac at a lot of airfields. It’s so frustrating because otherwise the helicopter behaves really well, but off-airport landings are nearly impossible.

I just had this happen in the R66 tonight in career mode. went from 30 down to 10-15fps slideshow (not much fun while landing a heli!!) so had a rough landing. Give us the option tone these effects down or turn them off completely. I like some effects but the R66 is OTT as well as being a FPS killer.

@BragRaindrop933 It would be good to report the problem in the BETA forum. Due to this problem, it is not possible to land the helicopter because the strong dust effect drastically reduces the FPS, making the simulator unplayable.

Have they changed anything in the beta? they only want issues reported that pertain to the beta there. These FPS issues have been ongoing since release no?

Beta didn’t address the issue. However, I thought the R 66 helicopter got an update that reduced the dust, snow effect. It’s still unplayable, you can’t land the helicopter anywhere.

The dust effect was not fixed in the BETA. I tested the latest beta release, the dust and snow effect is still horrible.

The problem is not only with the Robinson helicopter, but with all the other helicopters the effect is very strong, which significantly reduces the FPS and you can’t see anything. Another problem is that the effect does not disappear even after landing. There is a constant dust storm, which is unreasonable.
There needs to be a slider to control the intensity of the dust and snow effect. It is important that the slider also provides an option to turn it off.

I have been studying the abnormally faulty dust-snow effect on helicopters since the release of MSFS 2024.

There are several problems with the effect.

  1. The dust effect appears on green grassy, flowery fields, meadows, which is incorrect. There is no dust effect on green, grassy areas.

  2. An abnormally strong dust-snow effect appears on certain concrete surfaces or taxiways, which is incorrect. Let’s say that if there is minimal dust on the concrete surfaces, the helicopter blows it off in 2-5 seconds and the effect ceases. Currently, dust is constantly pouring on certain concrete surfaces.

  3. A serious problem is that the dust-snow effect is constantly present while the helicopter has already landed and is parked on the ground with the engine running, or is waiting for takeoff in a grassy, rocky, dirt area.

The effect can only appear if the pitch angle of the rotor blades exceeds 0 to a positive range. By increasing the angle of the rotor blades, the effect is stronger, but not abnormal.

If the area is very dusty, the effect will also disappear after a short time and is not continuous. The helicopter rotor wind will blow away the dust and the effect will disappear. Unfortunately, it is currently continuous.

The dust-snow effect is flawed. There are several problems with the effect. The most important thing is that the effect is very strong. The developer should provide users with the option to reduce the effect or turn it off completely.

The other burning issue is that the dust effect is always present, it does not disappear. I agree with the above summary.

The effect is still catastrophic and bad. I searched the MSFS 2024 folder system to see where it could be. I wanted to edit it or delete it. Unfortunately I couldn’t find it. I don’t know what name it might be under.

unplayable

Looks like a volcanic eruption :joy:. Weird thing is that the brown out doesn’t stop when the collective is down, when the rotor is not producing much if any lift, why would it blow dust all over the place?

@CaptainRude2025

It’s a tragedy that they haven’t been able to fix the bug for 6 months. It would be easy to fix the effect, but they don’t care.

Why is there a continuous dust effect?
Why doesn’t the dust effect stop after landing?
Why is there a strong dust effect on the grass at all?

This is completely wrong. When will it be fixed?

I don’t know how this is still being ignored. It affects an entire class of aircraft (that was heavily featured in game promotions) and should be considered a game breaking bug.
