Its not like Microsoft doesn’t have the server capacity. Heck, they have over 200 people on tneir team, (not all coders of course), but at this point the only thing missing is willingness. And this is not a super feature to code in, would be the perfect fit with MSFS 2024, with the seasons update. Or are they expecting VFR people not to touch the sim for the whole of winter, just because it’s freezing outside? Better yet, why not take away the time slider, so if its dark outside by the time you’re home from work, you’ll have to fly local flights in tne dark? It’s a very similar anthology. It’s a simulator, so that we can SIMULATE conditions, and weather is a big part of that. Historical weather is a perfectly reasonable request. Dev people often don’t understand their customers - look at what Austin Meyer is doing with X-plane (he’d probably put every available dev resource towards the already 5-star towards flight dynamics, even if that means you are running C64 era graphics, and no features whatsoever - thankfully there are some more sane people on his team, who don’t want to loose all customers).
