It is already possible to import SimBrief flight plans to the FMC.
@mdapol can you point to where in the manual it lists how to import flight plans from SimBrief? The only mention of “simbrief” I can find is this:
2.2 ROUTE PLANNING AND FUEL PLANNING
Several tools are available for route planning like:
• Aerosoft’s Professional Flight Planner X (https://www.aerosoft.com/en/flight-simulation/flightsimulator-2004/tools-missions/1771/professional-flight-planner-x)
• Aerosoft’s NavDataPro Charts package
(Search results for NavDataPro Charts | Aerosoft Shop)
• SimBrief (SimBrief.com - Virtual Flight Planning Solutions)
I searched the following PDFs:
- Vol1_Aircraft%20Operating%20Manual_Part-1.pdf (nothing)
- Vol2_Quick%20Reference%20Guide.pdf (nothing)
- Vol3_Tutorial.pdf (the mention above)
- Vol4_Normal%20Ops%20Checklist.pdf (nothing)
- Vol5_Aircraft%20Operating%20Manual_Part_2.pdf (nothing)
- Vol6_FMS.pdf (nothing)
- V-Speeds-CRJ-550-700.pdf (nothing)
- CRJ%20Flightplan%20Format.pdf (nothing)
- CRJ%20Throttle%20Calibration%20Manual.pdf (nothing)
It was just forgetfulness/being distracted from pulling the throttles back from CLB, after I’d levelled out. The ATC was unjustifiably nagging at me for having the wrong squawk code and I guess i didn’t get my priorities right.
You download the flight plan to the aerosoft-crj folder /data (IIRC). (there are a couple of flight plans there already) . Then, in the sim, you load the Company Route by typing the name of the plan.
EDIT: MSFS 2020 | AEROSOFT CRJ | TUTORIAL: How to import a SimBrief flight plan - YouTube
I use the SimBrief Downloader and download in “Aerosoft CRJ” format.
Thanks, but is that documented? Related questions: which file format should I download? Should I name my files in a specific way?
Yes, you need to name them a specific way. See my edit above.
Thanks! Is that video the only documentation?
I have no idea
Ah well, thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction! I do wish the documentation were more complete and designed to be searched and read.
Testing it now… looks pretty “straightforward” once you know which pieces go together.
I’ve got the SimBrief downloader making an MSFS .pln file for the MSFS flight plan (for ATC since I’m not running VATSIM actively), and the Aerosoft CRJ download into the magic directory for the plane FMC… input the start/end airports into the ‘route’ box on flight plan screen and…
And it works! AWESOME
Thanks again @mdapol!
Did you set your landing field elevation using the knob on the overhead panel? The system is automatic but you have to enter your LFE for it to properly adjust. You would set your departure field elevation for departure then before descent, ensure you’ve dialed in your landing field elevation so the pressurization profile can work properly.
So, one important thing is to know, when the depressurization is happening. The destination field elevation is only important before descending because the AMS controller will regulate cabin altitude in cruise independent from the field elevation. How fast are you climbing/descending, maybe you are too fast with flight level changes and the cabin altitude can´t be regulated fast enough. Another possibility is any misconfiguration on the bleed panel. Check if packs are on and the bleed valves are on auto.
Yeah, the landing field elevation was always set by me in cruise. I know all the stuff is set to auto. I did a flight yesterday and the depressurization didn’t occur. I may have forgotten the procedure for it, but I thought the packs are on auto-on by default - no warnings were displayed and those buttons weren’t illuminated. But by cycling them, the depressurization did NOT occur. I may have to go back to that Tutorial volume and double-check the exact procedure on activating packs. But it seems my problem was related to them.
Had the same today. Triggered when I paused the sim pressing escape ).
Packs where OFF. When switched on SLOWLY the pressure can back and the warnings ( takes time but you can see the altitude going down and temp going up )
Esc and resume tends to synchronise the cockpit controls with your physical controls, usually for the first time in a flight, so if you have any control mapped to the packs and that particular button/switch is set to deactivate, that will happen when you resume.
Maybe worth checking
Thanks … nothing mapped though
I just posted so others would know this could be the cause because the cabin press stays normal when I do not use pause. AND that it is solvable ( but going slow so people might think its not pressurizing )
Then that sounds like ESC followed by resume might somehow move the packs switch, and maybe others too, into a default state.
I’m not on my sim PC atm, but will give it a try later, when i am.
I think you just forgot to set them off. The bleed system is pretty much automated. The CRJ got the dark cockpit philosophy. So, if no switch is illuminated, you are ready to go.
It happened on my first flight too. I just forgot to turn on the packs. Quite simple mistake, but with all the new stuff to learn it can happen. Since then I never had any issues with the cabin pressure again.
Very frustrated about two things: Throttles and ILS.
The ILS capturing is not working, even close to the localizer the plane fails to capture it, and if it manages to capture the localizer the glide slope is bugged.
The throttles are calibrated but even then behave erratically, sometimes the N1 goes down on its own, sometimes TOGA is 87% sometimes TOGA is 80%. On approach this behaviour is very difficult to handle.
I’m using a Saitek quadrant and always calibrate the throttles but still the behavior is erratical.
If they improve or fix those problems for the next update/release then the CRJ is going to be really awesome!
