[HOW-TO] Best Practices to Fly Bonanza G36

The MP sitting around 21 in at 8500 MSL sounds about right. The EGT and fuel flow is an ongoing issue with MSFS mixture modelling, it will spike up and then begin going back down like it’s supposed to. If you use the NXi you can use the lean assist page, then just slowly lean until it starts populating a value for difference from peak EGT. After that you can adjust as needed to be either Lean or Rich of Peak EGT.

Thanks, now I can see what the chart above is saying more clearly. I kept the throttle around 2400 just because that’s where it sounded good to me.

I was using the lean assist page in the NXi on the G36 Improvement mod project. Every time I leaned the mixture the EGT temp would climb and the fuel flow increased. It just seemed to act very different from the C172.

I was getting around 11.5 - 12gph at 8,000 feet with the mixture set to rich. Going by the table I leaned the mixture until it climbed to 13gph. My IAS was a little lower than indicated there. This also caused an increase in EGT but I didn’t monitor to see if it later dropped again. It was all very counter intuitive to me what was happening.

I figured it out! It spikes as you move the mixture. I had interpreted that as it spikes and then settles down. I was thrown off by how high it climbs from 90% rich to 50%. I had been getting worried I was close to cutoff. Does the real G36 do that?

I just tested at 8,000 feet and dialed in the mixture around 25%. Throttle at full (22 in Hg), RPM 2400, mixture lever around 25% and fuel flow was 13 gph and IAS a little over 150kts.

The tips on the pattern throttle settings were also helpful. I think that made for the easiest landing I’ve had so far.

I had to check my settings as I started wondering if the rich setting was acing as an auto mixture. But my auto mixture under Assistance is off.

Why when I enrich mixture the engine management on the garmin show a lower FFlowGHP?
