How to get desired specific Runway for Take-off from MSFS ATC?

OK. Got me buffalo’d.

It’s been doing this for me since early 2021 with one of the updates. Since then, this has been a regular occurrence for me. And many others see the same thing on a regular basis.

All - I have not had ATC change my landing runway, but they have changed my landing type from ILS to visual lots of times, but since frequencies are already in nav system, I just fly it down and take over couple miles out. Lots of folks just turn off ATC, just did flight (see post) and turned off ATC, just tired of all the frequency changes, controller changes, etc. Once I have route in system, can check progress with VFR map, and make sure plane is following plan. ATC needs some serious work, but to Asobos credit, they have gotten most of the phraseology words fixed at least in USA. Have not flown in Europe, so cannot speak to those situations. If there was an excellent C-17 MSFS plane, I would plan flight from Iceland into Northern Scotland, that would be great, alas, the two C-17s available have lots of gotchas in them. Doing it in 747, although it works lots better now, well just not nearly as fun for me.

I should say, I do not ask for runway change, so I have not experienced your exact issue. If I give ATC an inch, they seem to take a mile, and almost never, descend me far enough out, so my approach is spot on, so I just descend on my own, ignoring what they are telling me. Seems to me the rule of thumb is at 10 miles, 250 KIAS and 10,000 AGL. In FSX ATC always waits till 80 or so miles out and then really push me down, but they get it correct. In MSFS, I should start descent at least 100 miles out, and if using VNAV and LNAV, the plane never descends quick enough, so switch to VLC mode and dial in 1500-2500 feet descent, blowing ATC all to heck. Oh well, I get her down safe and sound ignoring them for the most part.

The Topic juz got deviated to Landing Runway Selection, even though landing selection is also messed up. Can somebody try VOGO Airport and say how to select Runway 26 from ATC for Take-off.

The runway 26 is always used for Civilian Aviation.

I have noticed that the ATC runway assignments have improved quite a bit since SU5, so MS/Asobo has certainly made some adjustments for this issue. Now, ATC is more likely (though not always) to get the assignment correct, while in the past, they were likely to assign you the exact opposite runway for the prevailing winds.

I still do what I’ve always done - use the proper runway regardless of ATC’s instructions. I’m just pleased that they are more likely to be correct now (ATC, not ATIS). If the winds are calm or very slight, I’ll follow their guidance with no issues. Also, I keep options like Live Traffic, etc. OFF. Until the Weather/ATC/ATIS systems are all in sync, I don’t need someone landing or taking off into my face.

Airplanes, airport vehicles, ground crew. They’ve all felt the wrath of the prop attached to my C208.

Can’t wait until they get the ATC sorted. I like hearing the chatter.
