Mind you straight after SU5 I could boast 75fps @ 720p render 100% (with volumetrics off) at about 200 feet over the photogrammetric London rooftops ā¦ but unfortunately the two quickly following hotfixes smashed me back down to earth and 45fps.
Wow those are impressive results! I was playing most in the early days before performance improvements, if I remember well I settled on running my 1440p monitor at 1080p and a 50% render scale in game, so ultimately 540p I had some additional tricks like running air manager on my (also underpowered) laptop and using that to display instruments at a readable resolution. I tried to not look at the fps counter and just be grateful that it was running at all ! It was great but quite a world away from my current vr setup which I love .
But all the same I take my hat off to you for your perseverance because I wouldnāt have even tried had I not had a high end PC in every other respect. (3800X, ProEvo980, CL14 etc)
Honestly, you made the right choice getting the card when you did. If you would have decided to wait, you would never have gotten it. Prices keep going up on these cards and harder to obtain. Nvidia really messed up the way they released the cards. They did nothing to stop scalpers from getting these.
All Nvidia had to do was have people fill out an application to purchase a card and this would have stopped these bots from buying it all and then selling them at ridiculous price.
Iām no expert, but I know a big company like Nvidia could have the resources to prevent this disaster.
Iām glad I purchased my 3080 at $1400. People were telling me that was a crazy move and that I should just wait. A year later, itās almost out of stock everywhere and the places that do have it in stock are selling between 2500-3000. Yeah, Iām definitely glad I pulled the trigger on it.
Thanks ā¦ now could you please explain that to my wife who already knows my build went ā¬300 over budget and who will now will have to āslum itā in a three star hotel instead of four
I donāt think Nvidia or AMD care much about who gets those cards, to be honest. They get paid regardless if it goes to scalpers or legit gamers. It was a really bad combination of high demand because of COVID and cryptocurrency spiking that created this chronic shortage.
Agreed. Nvidia and AMD will make money either way, the difference being Gamers are returning customers, with some brand loyalty.
Miners have no brand loyalty whatsoever, by design they acquire whatever has the better hash rate/cost ratio. Scalpers are in it for the scalp.
Now that Intel is about to enter the Graphics card space, Nvidia and AMD have even more reasons to address the supply chain issues. Or they may loose customers forever.
I got a 9900K/3090 combo and I think Iāll skip Alder Lake and go for Zen 3 instead, as the DDR4 I have would still be usable. By the time DDR5 matures and prices come down (Mobo and DDR5 prices are insane right now) Raptor Lake wouldāve taken off.
With Alder Lake drawing so much power, 3080/3090 owners need to think about upgrading their PSU. (1200W+ isnāt cheap)
Alder Lake Z690 does support DDR4, although DDR5 performs better in theory.
The upgrade is still somewhat expensive, new MB, also new cooler probably. AMD is expected to release updated Zen3 chips in Q1 2022, and Zen4 later into 2022 exciting times for computing!
Iām all in as I Managed to grab a i9 12900K. I was scared as that it be sold out quick so I ordered on New egg and for security I walked in to Microcenter and picked one up as well (I have 2 x i9 12900K) Iām probably gonna return one. Though said sold out on Newegg for the Corsair Dominator RGB 32GB DDR5 5200 ram and for the Strix Z690E mobo good old Microcenter had them BOTH in stock. And I made it just in time as they did not have many left. I just want to have all the goodies in hand. Iām totally happy now with my PC. i9 11900K, Strix 590E mobo Strix 3090 and 32GB corsair DDR4 ram. Iāll probalbly wait for the new PCIe5 stuff to come out like the NVME ssd and the new AIO by ASus the ryujin 360 and the new Asus Thor power supplies to come out and Iāll start the build, maybe around December? If the new thing is 12th gen, DDR5ā¦ So be it Iām all in
I just ordered a new rig i9 12900k, then I read somewhere some games like my Assassin creed valhallaā¦. Was going to se my old rig but may have to keep it now lol. But looking forward to my pc anyaway.
Just upgraded from I7 9700k OC@5 GHz to I9 12900k, RTX 3090, 4k, 32 GB DDR4ā¦ 1 Gbps internet speed
Still DDR4, 3600 MHz, CL 14, DDR5 can waitā¦
CPU is default, I only modified some minor stuff in the BIOS, like " Disable On-board sound" enabled Re-size Barā¦
After I tested different aircrafts, sceneries, almost everything on Ultra, Motion Blur and Depth of Field off, I gained about 12 fps, so far.
I had, average 30 - 32 fps, now, with the hardware, I have, average, about 43 - 45
A 12 fps gain at 4K doesnāt sound right to me. Either youāre painting a rosier picture than reality, or you were severely bottlenecked by your 9700k.
