That supposedly happened back in Jan and that spun out. Per a mod who replied to my inquiry they said that it could have been that MB wanted too much $$ and Asobo wasn’t willing (at the time) to see the benefit of paying or simply MB (at the time) didn’t want to negotiate their contract or they actually negotiated or couldn’t come to a deal. Either way, the basic answer was that there was the possibility something would happen down the road and that it wasn’t a for sure not going to happen. But the Q and A from Dec had Jorg mention they were planning talks with MB in Jan for their beginning of the year pow wow. @Vejkko the contractual issue has been a well known fact since people started asking about a WXR for third party aircraft and also PMDG has also stated that their hands are tied because they can’t access weather data due to the files being encrypted and the partnership between MB and Asobo. Asobo wants to have a WXR just like everyone else. But it’s not their data so that stops everything.
We need this.
But WXR is important, and given that this is a next generation flight simming platform, Asobo should have foreseen from the onset that access to data is going to be a key concern for 3rd party developers, given that it took years for FSX and P3D to finally have a working WXR, even if it required 3rd party software, but at least it was far better than the rudimentary system that the FSX/ES platform had. It’s 3 years now, and still no progress. If all else fails, then the only other way would be for the WXR to use another source, but then you’ll have the issue of the radar returns mismatching the MB data in the sim, though the workaround would be better than nothing, as much as it wouldn’t be ideal.
One main component of IFR flying is understanding the weather nearby. Its hard to believe that MSFS is taking things seriously and stays silent with this topic.
So sad this is not fixed. Would be amazing to get real weather radar/tilt in the commercial addons jets.
MSFS 2024 is underway and we still dont have a working WXR. So sad.
Very important seeing that MSFS2020 ATC lowers your altitude into mountainous terrain.
I rely on the terrain radar when descending into new airports.
Would be fantastic if we could move forward with this please.
I think it’s about time!
Probably won’t be any in the new version either
To all those who have a twin engine long range airplane (A330, A350, B777, B787, etc.): you know that you CAN’T perform an ETOPS flight if you don’t have a working weather radar???
Correct. But…it’s MSFS, I can unlimited fuel my Cessna on a 14 hour flight if I so choose.
Yes, of course, for gamers this is normal…
I fly all my flights to the T off of an SOP I found for the 737, hardly consider myself a “normal gamer”. I could get hired for SWA tomorrow, dropped into a cockpit, and there would be very little they would need to train me on cockpit wise as far as how they operate and what their flows are for their pilots. Plenty of others who are either pilots themselves or have access to such material who fly their flights the same way…and…they do their flights without a WXR for ETOPS all the same. If I get on my computer and load a program that allows me to fly a plane around it’s a simulated game. Game because it’s provided through a gaming platform, Xbox, and not an authorized LEVEL D category type software. So you game, I game, we all game. I know people hate to have it thought that way but unless an airline is using it for training, it’s a game that simulates, and not just a simulation.
Like the LEVEL D type software, this is also software that simulates
MSFS when asked about weather radar:
“Neumann: The weather radar is technically a little bit outside what I know specifics on, but as far as I understand what they’re asking for, we don’t have it. It’s not like we are the jerks who don’t want to give access to something, we just don’t have the memory. I believe it’s because, like I just said, we’re running out of resources. To have the weather for the entire platform, there’s nothing to be shared at this moment. I have to defer to some of the experts on the team to talk about this more, but the intent is always to empower people to do their best work. So every time you see us as not doing something, there’s a technical reason for it, not a political one.”
So he doesn’t talk to the other team members on this topic? A proper working weather radar is something so important that I just can’t understand why they are not making it a high priority. In reality the use of the weather radar system is absolutely vital. Unless you have a big and stable high pressure area with no convection, the weather radar is used non-stop to ensure a safe and passenger comfort orientated flightpath.
How many times have I seen a fantastic depiction of a bigger weather cell with lots of precipitation in MSFS2020 and thinking “shame that the weather radar isn’t working”.
Any more news about a wxr radar API? It’s so unrealistic entering heavy wxr without any visual on your nav display
In the meantime we can use the weather radar mod for FBW. You can download it from flightsim.to
I was mentioning this issue of “memory” in another topic related to the poor cloud representation. I literally think they are completely out of resources. I don’t think we will see any weather improvements including radar until the new sim arrives in 2024. I think we have maxed out 2020. Even though I totally agree a radar is a necessity, I just don’t think it’s going to happen along with weather improvements until the new sim gets here. Maybe I am wrong, but it has been years that we have all been asking for these improvements and it hasn’t happened.
As thunder and lighing are not generated by the weather engine anymore, a wx radar is not so important… a bit rain isnt the matter… ^^
Please implement a full terrain and weather API, that allows for realistic weather radar and EGPWS. This should include terrain elevations at specific points and obstacle locations, as well as specific precipitation areas.
