yes 150% is a starting point in OpenXR tools for WMR. it’s close to ideal for barrel correction resolution. if your objective is smooth flight, 150% is the target for the most efficient calculation on G2.
In my experience so far with a G2 and a 3080ti, I don’t notice much difference in framerate smoothness until I hit about 60 fps on last year’s latest and greatest system. At 60 fps I feel like it’s much more natural but much quality has to give. I’m at about 30-40 fps now, but I get more benefit with clarity pushing down to the lower fps range.
It seems if I upgrade to this years latest and greatest I still wouldn’t be able to hit 60 fps and be able to read buttons on the Garmin panels.
What I hate more than anything right now are the Fresnel lenses on the G2.
60fps is terrible unless you are running 60hz or 120hz imo. It’s gonna be stuttery as hell.
3080ti should really have a 30fps focused setup. aim for 30+ without MR and then lock it to 30fps with RTSS and Toolkit.
That’s where I am now (30-45 fps). I’m mostly happy with typical flying.
It’s not great if I’m buzzing around low altitude and sight seeing from the side window.
Dude that made my left eye twitch just reading that. It really is just a frigging nightmare. When I go to play some games are like 8 sliders to choose from in the display menu and then the game just looks fabulous, it is such a relief.
I don’t know what all this rubbish means. I’ve been at this all year and spent so much money on it because the concept of the VR blew me away in my first experiences. But the endless trial and error and mirage of the right magical combo or settings….its driven me mad. And if I read one more post about someone’s experience being “butter smooth”, I may throw in the towel.
God I hope they fix this nonsense in 2024. It’s just dumb.
I have been having a great 60fps experience on HP Reverb G2. I find it much smoother than 45.
hahahaha yup, I too have come a long way since writing that back in April. I’m on to a Pico 4 now and G2 is boxed up. It is the wild west. I just reread that post and felt the frustrations I was going through back then but I’d tell you not to throw in the towel. If 60fps/hz mode doesn’t flicker for you, then you are a happy man. I hated that 60hz mode on G2.
Makes sense if you’re using 60hz, otherwise I don’t get it. It’s not really a subjective thing. 60fps at 90hz will cause tears/stutters/rubber banding, that’s just how it works.
So…. just don’t believe my eyes?
Not really, no
I guess the only thing that makes sense is if you are having regular stutters anyway. In that case you might not notice the additional stutters and feel that the motion between the stutters is smoother, which it definitely is for 60fps VS 45.
Or are you using motion reprojection?
An update, as I have had two pretty big breakthroughs:
I had intermittent freezes and some glitches. I started to realise they may be different things but wasn’t sure.
1 - Turned out the freezes were being caused by the dongle for my Logitech G733 headphones and/or Bluetooth devices, possibly the computer as well. Whatever it was, I shut down every single wireless thing in my room, including phone and computer wifi (I use Ethernet anyway) and the freezes are completely gone. Haven’t had a single one. At some point I will work out which it was but for now I’m just happy with some smooth flying.
2 - I never liked MR but I decided to give the depth reprojection setting in sim a try (the microsoft one, not the open xr one) with DLSS. When I lock at 60fps and use that, it is the cleanest smoothest result I had. There is almost know artifactng, very minimal. The flicker of panning across controls is totally gone. It is the experience I have been looking for all year since I first met MSFS. Might not work for others but it has been transformational for me. I believe it needs to be done at a frame rate higher than half the hz of your HMD so for my G2 that is 60 as it is still a fraction of 90. It is high I know, but I prefer to sacrifice settings for a smoother experience.
