The new bing data is great. I was able to update all my custom airports to match it in about a week and most others work fine with it. What I’m not happy with is the severe Tree LOD issues in areas that were updated in CU10. It went away for bit when updating to the beta and now its back and there seems to be no fix. I’m even on a brand new install of windows and it still persists. This is obviously a sim related problem
Oh god, what do you mean by MATCH please? How about paid airports?
edit: nwm, i checked some topics and understood what is going on. Wishing you all a positive great day.
@SeedyL3205, do you mean like the screenshots I’ve posted in this thread and others discussing this issue?
I have to agree with @DanDaredum here about the potential for a “major uproar” about this change.
I’m not sure how many people are actively participating in the SU16 beta compared to the total number of regular SU15 users who have been deliberately avoiding the SU16 beta (and FS2024) so far.
While those of us in the beta are noticing and reporting differences (for better or worse) in the areas we tend to fly in most frequently, we won’t notice this for areas that we don’t have capacity to look at ourselves.
But once SU16 goes live, and all FS2020 users begin seeing what their preferred region looks like in the new aerials, we can expect a lot more reactions about it in this forum.
in my opinion 2020 has more realistic ground imagery colors and trees, if they are going to match it to 2024’s there would be less meaning for me to keep 2020 installed
i guess it doesnt make commercial sense to maintain two different digital twins, being it twice the effort, i guess
Well, having flown in both sims extensively, my opinion is, sometimes 2020 can be too vivid, i.e. I know and feel it’s not real, where 2024 is mixed depending on the quality of the ground imagery. Then again, I’ve been jawdropped multiple times in both sims when things are just right, like some of the South American area in 2024, for example. Then, approaching Queenstown, NZ, seems better in 2020 than 2024 (lets not talk about Milford Sound).
As I’ve said before, it’s extremely subjective and each person will have an entirely different opinion.
It’s been over a month and I still have this issue with no comments from aspbo about it, makes me think it’s my pc but I know it’s not bc other games work
One specific point I and a lot of users have been pointing out in a number of threads is that suddenly MSFS 2020 Scenery in the Beta is starting to have the horrible cartoony colours and feel that we suffer from in MSFS 2024. Also that terrible fake sepia colour at night has also unfortunately been bought across where the ground glows in the middle of the desert at night.
Thats before we bring up the stutters on landing.
Please do not release SU16 until at least these are fixed.
What I also don’t under stand is why is it only a hand full of people experiencing this bug? Shouldn’t it be everyone? Pretty much your the only other person I see posting about it in forums, at this rate aspbo will never fix it, I haven’t been able to actually do a flight in the sim in so long and it genuinely blows knowing it’s working fantastic for others
There would be no “effort” to maintain the FS2020 world. Just the continued allocation of cloud resources to keep it available as-is within FS2020.
Take a simbrief filed airliner flight from KSFO to KLAX in SU16 and then again in SU15. One looks awesome and the other looks like, well, 2024. It ain’t just the bugs people don’t like in 2024. People fly 2020 because they just think it just looks better. And there are those who think otherwise (mostly the VFR crowd). And of course, there is a big division of simmers in the community who like 2024 and those who hate it. And now MS is bringing the scenery from 2024 to 2020. They’re gonna bring that division to 2020. I guess that was the point of my post. 2020 simmers won’t have a choice now.
We’ll see how it will look after the introduction of SU 16, if something goes wrong, I’ll leave MSFS2020 and support another simulator, it’s just a waste of five years and money on add-ons.
I just fully switched back from 2024 to 2020 mainly due to performance and to how much better 2020 looks to me. Especially in ground texture quality. Now I’m reading this and my heart dropped. They can’t be serious about this right?
Want to share my findings after few weeks on SU16 beta.
For me SU16 brings some good aspects for current 2020 (non beta) bing data:
- It fixes major ground tile popping at various locations (European alps, Finland, Colorado, West Virginia, and few others)
- Fewer FSX-style “offline” generic texture patch on grounds
- Less clouds baked on ground
- Improved aerial imagery quality (eastern and southern europe, iceland, middle east, northeast and south asia, africa, central and south america, parts of australia, canada, alaska)
- Better autogen buildings placement
- No more blurry PG destroying some airports (KDEN, KDFW)
- Better river data (No more random river crossing cities)
Some locations are not much improved, or already same between 2020 and 2024:
- UK, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, northern France
- Southeast asia
- Most of US large cities
- Hawaii and pacific islands
- Northern scandinavia
- Most of New zealand
Unfortunately it also brings new glitches:
- Missing or broken PG at various cities, although were fixed later (Rio, Sao paulo, Phoenix, Zurich)
- Weird tree placement at certain locations
- Worse bing maps (Few locations in australia, milford sound NZ)
- New ground popping/morphing at PG areas (mostly in US)
- Random high tension towers everywhere
- Weird color patches on bing maps at many locations
- Broken generic airports
What I can say about this beta:
- Newer, updated bing maps is not always better
- What they called “bing data alignment from 2024 to 2020” is still WIP, not ready for release
- 2024’s bing data itself has many glitches from beginning
