Yes, were mostly same thing i was about to write. Only that i think a 3d radar system would decrease fps same as he mentioned about those wipers effect. I’m not against lower fps to increase the realism. But i know for sure it’s many around here that counts those fps.
One thing I think we can safely agree and bet on is that with all of bugged logged being attached to various weather threads that this next SU will have some major significant weather changes, updates, or improvements.
Yes, really looking forward to next update
I’m almost finished completing my degree, will be 72 credits in 90 days so I have been very busy. After January I will be applying to go back to Asia to resume my teaching life, so for me, this update will come very fast.
He did say that PMDG wants to be very considerate of the FPS it will use, so performance will be checked but it will need a couple of frames for the animation… as long as things are fluid…, you naturally still have the choice of leaving the weather radar / wipers on or off, when you need the extra performance - maybe only in some circumstances, like scenery with a heavy load on your FPS.
I remember the WX radar from PMDG’s previous versions of their aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator and if you left it off, I think it didn’t add to less FPS.
I very rarely if ever use the terrain feature. I know that causes some FPS drops as well. Back in FSX the depth of the weather wasn’t as detailed and available as it is now so I’m sure there will be some type of hit regardless. Won’t know until it happens.
Yes, it would likely be more detailed - indeed - have to wait and see on this one too - it will be interesting how this will be on the new platform and if Asobo also has plans to upgrade the weather radar in the default aircraft as well.
I wish I shared your optimism, but it’s been 2.5 years and it is still buggy.
I’m happy I don’t share your pessimism it’s been 2.5 years, and it’s the best live weather in a sim ever. Could it still be improved upon? Sure, especially the metar blending (remember they added the metar injection based on user requests), and the sudden wind/baro shifts in cruise. It still is an amazing live weather system.
There are most definitely things in this sim that have progressed well over the lifespan of the sim so far.
But likewise, there are lots of languishing issues that have been known about since the early alpha days that still haven’t been addressed.
It really all depends on what’s important to you as a user and how you use the sim. And of course, how you’ve personally been affected by said bugs or not.
If you’re talking about weather, weather was fine until WE the community decided and voted that we needed to have METAR representation and integration, which is NOT the way the sim was modeled or intended to have weather depicted and used. Hence the great screenshots everyone keeps talking about pre SU7. I think to put it plainly, we voted for it, it’s what we wanted, and we kind of ■■■■■■ off/hurt Asobo’s feelings. Serves us right having to use the blended mess that it is honestly. It’s an antiquated method that was used way back since FS2004 and to get the info we so desperately needed directly in the sim would take less than 20-30 seconds to find in a secondary external window/browser. VATSIM played a huge role too because they spearheaded the whole thing claiming they couldn’t fly without it, even though when ATC is on they provide that anyways. The sim is ever evolving and yes things are buggy, but that’s what development means, if you really want to look at it from a different perspective, the version we use is just a ‘frozen’ live build. If you want to feel optimistic about using the sim, coming back in 2030 should provide a much better less buggy experience.
We are approaching sim update 12, and one of the most needed feature is missing : Working RADAR.
A complex study aircraft creators like PMDG and FENIX simulations can not at any radar feature to their airplanes yet, and from my understanding the ball is stuck on MS/Asobo side.
Are we going to have it ? or it’s never going to happen ?
It was very long since they promised yet nothing happened yet.
Where did they ever PROMISE? I’d love to see that exact post/video comment. Nothing is promised. Sure it’s talked about and a wanted feature. But the only thing PROMISED is having aircraft that you can fly into and out of airports with some type of ATC. That they delivered. Some people have become so unrealistic about this whole game, it’s absurd. They’re LEGALLY obligated in how they use their weather data. They can’t just use it however they want without first getting approval from their source.
Going through their latest Q and A, supposedly 20 MILLION flights from people with the planes JUST from the 40th anniversary. That tells me 99% of the complaining is probably sub 50-80 people. This game is alive and healthy and the bottom 5% are the people consistently posting and complaining on here.
Even further, the fact that ALL updates, especially SU’s are FREE, boggles my mind how much people feel they’re owed. ANY other smart game developer would charge for SU’s knowing people would pay for it but we don’t have to.
Let’s get one thing right here though, yeah they never promised a weather radar. However, this is not a “game” it is a simulator. Even Asobo and Jorg himself said in the end, this product is intended to be a “simulator”. It is only fair to be asking and wanting to make the sim as real as possible. FSX had it, DCS has it, X-Plane has it, P3D has it and so on. That 50-80 people you apparently so claim that are complaining and wanting these features is false also. Go take a look at the wishlists section and see how many votes each topic gets on the features that are being requested. Most are around the 2000 mark and some being more. So, for you who might not be a real-world pilot or care for doing actual real-world procedures, this does not really apply to you. The ones who do want real world procedures and something us real world pilots can somewhat practice on in the real world are the ones who want it. They are the reason why flight simming exists in the first place and where it is at.
Do not say how unrealistic we have become because of the features and items we want and need in the sim to make it you know a “SIMULATOR” which is in the name of the product. As for the sim updates, those are quality of life updates not DLC, big difference. Why in the world would they be charging to improve the sims performance. That is like a game charging $5 for updates that are critical to fixing game breaking bugs to get it to work. Your logic on SU being free does not make sense when it should be free regardless. I also guarantee you that if Asobo did do that, no flight sim user would be dumb enough to pay for that. If they tried that with Microsoft Flight back, then where they tried to sell regions and aircraft separately and look what happened to that. It failed miserably. Let the ones who want these features and who just want to make the simulator as realistic as it possibly can be continue requesting features because in the end those 20 million flights that you talk about will reduce dramatically if another sim out there replicates the graphics of MSFS and creates a more realistic flight envelope with the necessary systems that are needed to replicate real world flight and procedures and Asobo does not do enough or implement said systems, they will all flock to the other sim that offers those. It is just the way it is for the flight simming world. Like I said if you do not really care for that, great! Continue flying like how you do and that is that.
Sim update 10 if I’m not mistaken they said they will do weather API.
OK so then they have within their 10 year contract to do so. After their development period and there’s still some baseline things not working or fixed that are no excuse, I’ll complain. There are things I wish would be worked on or fixed, but I also understand the development process and the legal side of things. Most people don’t. Put yourself in their shoes, imagine 50+ emails a day about why things don’t work or aren’t included vs. 1-2 of showing appreciating for being something never done before, how motivated would you be? You can be unhappy, but the more you complain, expect to wait longer. Thought most people would have learned this growing up, or maybe they just complained enough until their parents gave in and just wanted them to stop.
Assumption on something that still does not even exist yet.
Weather processing may be quite a lot of computing, but weather does not change every frame update… so the computing can be spread over quite a long period of time, so the actual LOAD may turn out to be very low .
Maybe the reluctance to release access to the weather data in sufficient detail, is more a licensing restriction of the actual weather data, and the fear of that data being used outside of current licensing limits.
All guesses, which may be the clue to the real issue :-
Nobody at MS/Asobo seem willing to give a satisfactory reason WHY this cannot be done ?
(or did I miss that ?? )
This is what I think the issue is. All legal and licensing and nothing to do with technical aspects.
I think it is pretty clear. I have said this time and again… Asobo/MS buy the weather data, they do not own it, and is not allowed to just give access to it to every 3rd party out there.
Several have said this above.
The point is (a) why can’t they just say this (b) what’s the next solution then? Not having weather radar in a majority of airliners seems like a majorly missed opportunity.
