Jittery unstable VR experience

Thank you soo much for this post, this was the one thing I could not figure out. Once I used your link and downloaded 1.37 the sim became smooth as silk and oddly it seems I gained a few FPS too.

If you are using Pimax play just do as this post says, it’s a gamechanger.

So the jitters and tracking lag continue for me using the latest Pimax Play 1.41.1. Gonna stick with 1.37 in the interim.

There is also a youtuber who describes the tracking issue perfectly with the Pimax Crystal Light. See link below where he begins to describe the tracking issue at around 8:34 into the video.

PIMAX Crystal Light Review

So funnily (is that a word? lol) enough, after never having this issue before, I got the 1.41.1 update and the next 2 flights I had weird stuttering and both times the PCL froze. Closing Pimax Play and relaunching allowed me to go back into the flight (I didn’t close msfs24) and continue my flight.

I never had that issue before and I now see what you guys are talking about. I was on 1.40.1 and never had an issue.

Do any of you guys have the Lighthouse tracking faceplate? If so, have you tried with that to see if the problem persists? I have the Lighthouse faceplate and Index controllers, so if my next flight still has tracking problems, I will switch to Lighthouse tracking and see what happens. I had an Index for years, so I already had 2 Lighthouses and the knuckle controllers. It made sense to get the Lighthouse faceplate.

I have only been using the Lighthouse tracking for games I am using the knuckle controllers in, and I also have the Lighthouses set up for the center of the room where I would sit or stand for other games. It’s much quicker and easier to just use the inside-out tracking for msfs24.

I do have the lighthouse tracking faceplate and three stations. There is no jittering when using that, but, you can’t use the controllers that come with the PCL.

With PiMax Play 1.37 I don’t need to use the lighthouse stuff as I have had no jitters. FWIW.

Understood. I have lighthouses and knuckle controllers from my valve index, which is why I went ahead and got the lighthouse faceplate for my crystal light.

I don’t use controllers at all for msfs24 vr.

As per my post above, I have heard from others (since I don’t have the lighthouse faceplate) that these tracking issues don’t affect them. The reason for that is that the lighthouse faceplate has some built-in compute power specifically to handle tracking calculation onboard the headset so it doesn’t have to offload to the computer CPU over USB. I’m not sure if the onboard compute in the LH faceplate handles all or just some of the tracking calculations, but either way it reduces the CPU load.

The stock PCL (inside-out tracking) definitely has zero onboard compute power and offloads everything to the CPU over USB.

Good info, thank you! I just finished a flight and I definitely notice what you guys are saying. It’s not bad, but I definitely notice it now.

I have a busy day tomorrow, but should be able to get a quick flight in tomorrow evening and I will try using the Lighthouses and see if I notice a difference.

I think I always just chalked it up to low frames, but I dialed in my settings a little more today and I have a solid 40+. I should not be seeing those jitters.

The Lighthouses helped, but there is still some kind of occasional jitter. Not sure if it is the PCL or msfs24. It’s like a quick shift back and forth once. Maybe screen tearing. Not sure.

Maybe a stupid question, but how well lit is the room? I have heard that the Pimax headsets need the room to be well lit for good inside out tracking?

Good thought. My room is very well lit. Also, it’s not specific to Pimax. My Samsung Odyssey would act up if there was not enough light.

I switched to the Lighthouses, and that helped some, but I was still getting what sppeared some kind of scren tearing or stutter. I had switched to 90hz upscale trying to dial in settings. When I went back to native 90hz that issue went away. There was some kind of issue with the upscaling or it was conflicting with dlss or something.

I will say, the PCL is capable of incredible visuals. I was playing around and cranking settings just to see the visual, even though it was unplayable. The clarity that the PCL can deliver if you can drive it is unbelievable.

Got an update today from Pimax Support on my ticket submitted for this issue:

Thank you for your response, I will give you a new algorithm library within one week which will solve your problems.

I am hopeful the next iteration of the Pimax Play software will solve this issue for good.

Got to hand it to Pimax for their excellent customer support !

Very excited to hear if that works for you.

I would be interested in hearing how it goes, hopefully they can finally sort this issue out.

Bingo!! Had this HUGE lag / jitter problem with brand new Alienware Area 51. As I always fly seated I hadn’t bothered setting up room boundaries for the new Super. Once I did the Sim became buttery smooth. Thanks so much for the tip VRdaddy!

I returned the Crystal Light today.

That’s too bad. Are you getting a different headset?

Yes-Quest3.

Nice! I hope it works out for you.

Yikes, I have a Crystal OG and Q3 and I’d never want to enter this sim in the Q3, not that the Q3 is bad, it would just be a bit torturous for the sim after the Crystal. Every time I’ve given a weekend or two of my life to do so, I’ve regretted. The Q3 even lacks G2’s comfort and center clarity.

New version of Pimax Play just dropped, I will test it when I get a chance to see if they fixed the jitter/lag issue.
