Limited by main thread MFS2024

After some tinkering I think it’s a FBW A380 issue, I lower the LOD to 150 and the Fenix instantly gets 50-70 FPS with all ultra texture and super sampling, but the A380X will just fall back to stable 20FPS with CPU and GPU low usage.

Here with a 9950x3d and a 5090… from low quality to all ultra in vr or not, full res or not, FPS dont change with quality, but somehow i thread limited on top processor. None cores are at 100%…
60 to 75 fps on london in VR, 105 fps in the middle of the ocean…gpu never come close to 100% use. Says thread limited sometime rdr, sometimes another…

Hi reran into this thread and saw you responded to a note of mine a month ago. I upgraded my 3070ti to a 5080 and now I live a somewhat normal simulator life, but the simulation is STILL CPU bound. It only uses 50-75% of the 5080 capacity, again with a Ryzen 7950.

Hope you are doing OK… stay away from the Beta SU3… that will drive you crazy too!

7800X3D and 5070ti here… same problem, somehow CPU limited while none of the threads/cores are being used even close to 100 percent… also DLSS in MSFS2024 seems to freeze the image when focused, when I focus something on my second monitor then the image moves again… this sim full of bugs and unoptimized junk, im staying with MSFS2020 for the time being

Yes, there is something funny going on in the main thread. I used to write the sorta code and to make it run efficiently you need to be ruthless about what is in the main thread because it gets repeated on every frame. I wasted a lot of money buying graphics capacity that is in fact worthless if that thread runs slow. I guess the way they see it that actual flight simulation is only 10% of their “game”.

I agree that MSFS 2020 was crisp compared to this, I see 2024 more as a computer science project than a fun simulation, but I am into computer science so it is an amusement to sorta do the autopsy.

Just to add to this thread, which is a favorite. Here is a screen shot of my Ryzen 7950 5080 system CPU limited. Thought I would see one or another of the cores at 100% but I do not? The 5080 is clearly not limited. I cannot really complain at the frame rate I am getting but this is just a follow-up note.

I was also sad to see that my very expensive BENQ image processing monitor is limited to only 60 FPS at 4K, so in reality my discussions are limited by my monitor…

You can help your mainthread out by setting the frame limiter to 30fps and let frame gen double it to 60fps. Whatever frames being cranked out over 60 are just being dropped.

Yes, you are right. My goal had been to run at 30 and FG up to 60. Unfortunately if I run at 4K, TLOD 200 or greater and with a few more visual toys like AIG Trafiic I get stutters from that main thread. Luckily the monitor allows me to run at 50 with 25 doubled. This is a shame with a Ryzen 7950 and a 5080. But it looks OK.

Even at 50 see that GPU is far from pegged but the CPU will max out. Red arrows. This is a coupled ILS approach into SFO with a custom airport/FlightBeams. Last 3000’.

Yeah, you really need to take the resolution down just a notch or two and/or reduce the Tlod. A 9800x3d would be perfect.
