Location Manager 2 for MSFS 2024 is Here!

Does this mean that i can make my own pattern/circuit visible on the map? A

What’s your ICAO?

You can, within the limitations of the provided dropdown parameters and left/right hand circuits. It’s not super complex, and doesn’t include 45 deg entry atm, but is effective enough. Pre-positioning is either at Take Off, Cross wind, downwind, base legs, or final either side.

Adding 45 degree entry and some nicer bezier curves on the circuit diagrams is on the todo list, but not guarantee on that either😉

I’m happy to see this being worked on. Location Manager was one of my favorite tools in FS2020, and I anticipate using it a lot in FS2024.

Would this work with commercial airlines like Fenix, PMDG or Inibuilds?

I don’t use 3rd party heavies, so can’t speak to them. Some of them have very custom functionality that may or may not react well to being teleported around.

I have done some tests with the different heavies in the standard, Deluxe, PDeluxe packages and they seem ok, with the proviso that these aircraft have much more complex systems and are slower to react, so depending on what you want to do you need to give them more setup time after teleporting to the start position to begin a training scenario.

Suggest you read the section " Location Teleporting – Detailed Notes " in the tips section ~1/2 way down the page, which goes into more detail about the options and parameters you can choose to set these scenarios up Location Manager 2 for MSFS 2024 - Sonicviz

eg:

  • Set options for Distance, Height, or Speed lets you choose from the following ranges at stepped intervals:
    • Distance: 0.25 to 25km
    • Height: 125 ft to 30000 ft
    • Speed: 50kts to 400kts

So, if you need to you can certainly set start points for larger aircraft further/higher/faster away to let them settle in and set things up. You can also start with pause on, so that gives you time to also configure things. If you want to repeat a scenario quickly the fastest way is just open the Left-hand panel and hit Teleport with the still selected parameters, or change them, and repeat it. Or set one up closer on a final approach phase or even take offs.

Please note the simplified aircraft config options on the link above. It would be ideal to load the standard FLT files to configure aircraft for different start phases (Apron, runway, etc) but it’s a bit of a pita to do that from Javascript at the moment, still looking into that.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your excellent program, Location Manager 2, for MSFS 2024, which I purchased today. Unfortunately, I can only see options for “Ground” and “3x Random” under “Position,” but not others like “Final,” “Base,” “Traffic Pattern,” and so on. Am I perhaps doing something wrong?

Please note these forums are for general information purposes only, not 3rd party product support. This is a requirement specified by the Forum TOS “Any and all 3rd Party addon support needs to be addressed off of the MSFS Forums and directly to that 3rd Party.”

I know that can be confusing because there are some forum threads that definitely seem to cross this line on a regular basis, but Them’s the rules and I’m sticking to them!

There is a dedicated support form at Location Manager 2 for MSFS 2024 - Sonicviz

And thanks for following up via the form as well, I answered you by email.

For future reference, to answer the question:

Unfortunately, I can only see options for “Ground” and “3x Random” under “Position,” but not others like “Final,” “Base,” “Traffic Pattern,” and so on. Am I perhaps doing something wrong?

The options are dynamic depending on the type of location you have selected.
Just clicking on the map to show a red circle is a general custom location.
To show the other options you need to select an airport, runway, or parking spot by first scanning for them to populate the map with airport markers within a radius of the map centre, then select one of the markers at an airport. It can be a performance drag if on all the time, so is under user control. Hit that big green Start Scan button up top, which will then turn into a big red Stop Scan button. Scan parameters adjusted from the left hand panel scan settings tab.

Please ensure you read the Tips section on Location Manager 2 for MSFS 2024 - Sonicviz which explains all this, as well as in the app in the right hand panel.

They contain a lot of answers to “this doesn’t work properly” or “how do I” type questions, and other clarifying answers to user questions as well as MSFS constraints as to what can be implemented at this time.

There is a small learning curve with the Location Manager 2 user interface, and the most efficient way to learn it is via a simple process.

. Use the tool tips that show up when you mouse over the column header of the grid
. Open the right hand panel of the addon for extensive in add on help
. Read the tips Location Manager 2 for MSFS 2024 - Sonicviz
. Read the “Known Issues” and other info sections on the project website
. Ask support via the form at the bottom of this page if you don’t understand something, or have found a bug/issue to report.

You will then have a more complete understanding of how it works, and then you can decide how you want to use it, the way that suits you best. It’s quite flexible in that regard.

Hope that helps.

Thanks,
Paul

Thank you Paul for your help. Problem solved!

30 Canadian dollars is way overpriced, $15 would be the max i’d be willing to pay.

Thanks for your pricing feedback.

That’s perfectly fine if you don’t see the value in it. Addons are not for everyone, and we each make our own choices on those based on our own preferences for how we like to play the game.

It’s a fascinating area: willingness to pay, perceived value, pricing strategy, and international exchange rates.

This is quite a niche addon, and is targeted at very specific types of users:

  • Primarily self-directed free flight users who would utilse this on a regular basis to explore the digital earth twin, and hence would get the value out of it by saving their exploration discoveries, and maybe share them.
  • Users who like to experience take-offs and landing challenges in unique locations, and also want to save them, and maybe share them.
  • Users who are serious about refining airport take-off and landing skills in a variety of aircraft through interleaved training in a variety of locations and conditions. See The Power of Repetition and Interleaved Learning in MSFS - Sonicviz
  • Someone who likes to do all of the above is the core target user, which from my experience is actually a small subset of the overall user base.

As such, I think US$19.99 is reasonable enough given the scope of activities that the addon supports, though I wouldn’t push it beyond that. Unfortunately, I don’t control the exchange rates, and realise that it can make regional prices seem out of whack. Sorry, nothing I can do about that. I did have an initial 25% launch discount, but that’s passed now I’m afraid.

I’m just a solo indy developer, so there’s overheads in both creating and supporting extremely niche addons like this. I truly appreciate the users who do take a punt on my niche addons and find the value in them to improve the regular UX of their Flight sim experience. Thanks to all of you who have!

If you just want to save locations I can highly recommend
GitHub - till213/SkyDolly: Sky Dolly connects with Flight Simulator 2020 and records the flight path and basic instruments for replay. from @Steeler2340 , which also has some neat replay functions. And it’s free, as in beer.

Blue skies, and happy flying!
