Thanks for all the replies. Maybe someone already said this but—back when I flew professionally the only instrument time we logged was actual IFR. All company flight plans filed with ATC were IFR regardless of actual WX, but the only instrument time we entered into our log books was time flown in actual instrument conditions.
Personal flight time was treated the same way, only flight time in instrument wx conditions was entered as instrument time.
