Make Cloud Streaming Optional -MSFS 2024

I wish I could pin this. Couldn’t have summed up my experience any better.

A region selector is a good idea. Download the areas you fly in often, and not like rolling cache but an actual working manual cache.

I was fine with the map streaming in 2020. That made sense. You wouldn’t need the whole world on your hard drive, when all you could see was 10km² at a time anyway. But streaming even the aircraft make no sense to me.

Also I liked to modify certain textures or aircraft behaviour slightly even in my Official folder. That option is gone now as well.

Asobo needs to change this, now. Everyone should definitively tune into the next developer stream and make sure our voices are heard. Thanks for making this post, get it out to as many people as you can.

Thank you. Like you said, all I want is for our complaints to be heard. I have been trying to increase exposure to this post as best as I can.

Maybe, but if they had waited until 2028 when the next gen consoles are released it would have been better! The existing consoles can just about handle 2020!

I think the balance could be better for cloud and running of SSD storage, SSD storage is getting cheaper even if you are a xbox user. The 1tb card is now down to $99. Think Microsoft could do a 1TB card with Microsoft Fliight Simulator 2024 pre-installed. Then the Xbox user could just slip it in the back of the Xbox cartridge slot and he would have plenty of storage for more content on the drive. I have a 1gigabit internet connection so, it is not terrible for me but loading could be faster if more was on a SSD drive and less loading off the cloud, SSD faster. I would also suggest that Microsoft come out with a Xbox Series X pro to help those Xbox player have a better product with MSFS. I have a high-end gaming PC and the original Xbox series X tower. The gaming tower has a lot better specs so I running MSFS on it and not the Xbox series X.

For today I gave up. Could not load one Aircraft on an Airport yet. Allways the message too low bandwith. I have 1000 Mbps. What about those people only having 500 or even only 250? They will never have a chance to fly. I hope its just a big big Bug and can be resolved during the next days. What I had seen, was the first load had no textures at all on the Planes, after my fourth Attempt they where there. So fingers crossed i will look back on Friday.

Totally agree it’s a win-win situation. They spend less money on cloud streaming due to less bandwidth usage and we get better performance. Some of us have a 2TB SSD just for the game so we should be able to use it.

I can confirm that streaming is not a good solution and i prefer to download the sim and the planes to my SSD!
From clicking on the sim button to get inside the sim it took me between 8 and 19 minutes…everytime!
The planes, airports and the world around me is loading too slow! I have 500mb/s!
I voted!

I don’t understand why it ignores the cache every time I start the game.

Because every time I start the game it goes through the VFS registering packages again

I’m basing this strictly on what is in Library section, but they have options for the following:

Streamed
Rented
Installed
Not Installed

This leads me to believe that once the Marketplace is fixed and running, we’ll have the option to install which items we want to allow to run from our HD vs which we want to stream. Again this is not confirmed worth anything outside of me making that assumption based on the “Installed/Not Installed” options.

Also I’m seeing a bunch of my MSFS 2020 items in the Library already so it looks like they are feeding all the old mods in. However I can’t choose anything except “Open Marketplace Page”. I also can’t choose to remove something from Streaming yet since I have some add ons I no longer use in 2020 and they are showing up automatically.

Cloud/streaming makes no sense to me as a user . What are the potential benefits to us ? Who benefits and why ?

Couldn’t agree more. A balance is definitely needed to help alleviate the strain on the servers.

I noticed this too. Not sure if it’s a streaming related problem or an install issue.

Definitely agree we should have this option .

I could have probably downloaded the entire world of Ortho scenery for XPlane 12 by now

Hopefully this is the case and we will be able to choose which items are streamed vs stored on the hard drive. Honestly, I thought I heard that this would be an option in one of the older developer streams.

I agree with you. Although I could see the benefit for people who don’t have a decent pc or are on consoles. Nvidia does something similar where they allow you to stream games running from a 4080 in the cloud so you get rtx 4080 performance on weaker systems; But it’s not a requirement and people who want to run the games natively on their systems have the option to do so. I believe Microsoft should follow suit.
