Managing cockpit controls when the aircraft is not in smooth fight

Trackir has been the best thing since someone took a knife to a loaf for me for the last 6 or 7 years!

This is a problem indeed since even with camera shake set to OFF, the view doesnā€™t not become completely steady and keeps reacting to bank angle and turbulence.

The head movement due to bank angle is wrong anyway, this wonā€™t happen in real life and neither would you have the tendency to do so when flying a coordinated turnā€¦

I did the same and havenā€™t looked back. I am tempted though, by the vrinsight switch panel and it should work with Spad.next, which if you havenā€™t tried it, is well worth a look for your Logitech panels as well.

Dude. Thank you SOOO much for posting that. As cool as that switch panel is, I already have the Logi one, and I have so many switches on my X56 throttle that Iā€™m in no need of them atm.

HOWEVERā€¦

You making me aware of this product line, I now know that they make a radio panel. I like manually using the radio vs using the ATC panel to auto-tune frequencies. The only reason I didnā€™t get a Logitech radio panel is the lack of dual encoder knobs. Itā€™s semi-annoying having a single knob on the AP module, but easy to get used to. However, thereā€™s no way Iā€™m spending minutes tuning the single radio knob on the Logi. Nope, not happening. Now that I know that VRInsight have a radio module with dual encoders, I may very well get one of those to complete out my instrument stack.

Found something else today which might be of interestā€¦ I have the second Logitech radio panel on order and was wondering about the Logitech switch panel, but canā€™t honestly say that I could justify it. The VRInsight panel was another contender, butā€¦

I do have an old 7 inch tablet and found an app called Sim Dashboard which seems brilliant. Very configurable and equally versatile. There are some panel designs for Flight sim 2020 as well as FSX and others, but one of the templates on offer was my switch panel. So, this virtual button box will do it all and then some. Cost? Around 3.50 from UK or about 5 dollars. It has been a good dayā€¦

I decided to order a Stream Deck instead of a radio panel. My son picked one up for his work and streaming, and itā€™s got tons of great options for MSFS as well, including a keypad to enter radio frequencies (like on a G3000). Itā€™s not realistic from the viewpoint of aircraft controls. But overall, itā€™s far more practical. Itā€™s out for delivery right now (gotta love Amazon). Looking forward to trying it out.

Was looking at it this morning (which led me to research virtual button boxes) but this might get a bit of black Friday treatment from Amazon. I think it has done in recent years.

Do let me know how you carry on with it, because if it did get a hefty lump off with with Black F, my hand might reach for my back pocket.

Did you try to use Locked option instead of Legacy? For me Locked option works better in bouncing cockpits.

Use Home Cockpit mode.

I think you can also disable camera shake entirely without using Home Cockpit Mode.

Home cockpit mode is more realistic. In this mode the world moves around the aircraft, not the other way around. So the cockpit stays stationary relative to the pilots viewpoint and is how it is in real life flying. Personally I think it should be the default mode.

The default cockpit camera views become disabled in this mode but there are many camera settings that can be used to to get exactly what you need, just takes a bit of time and patience to set them up.

I have set up the mini joystick on a Thrustmaster TWCS throttle for free panning and use various other buttons on it and my Honeycomb Alpha yoke for things like zooming and moving the view up, down, left and right etc. When I get around to it I will also create some custom views to put on my Stream Deck.

You will not regret it. I have had a Stream Deck XL for a few days and I have already replaced many mouse and keyboard actions and with some scripting I have created one-button actions to simplify and automate my setup. I will never look back.

It does not take long to learn and itā€™s functionality is only limited by your imagination. Also with some programming skills the sky is the limit

Stream Deck was awesome, but Iā€™ve since moved on to using Air Manager for MSFS. The SD is no longer required in my cockpit. I now use it for other stuff instead and itā€™s great for that. Like you said, possibilities are endless.

But I have to say, it was awesome while I was using it for MSFS.

Like to bind the g1000 range softkey to my Joystick,

I had not noticed that I was replying to your post that is nearly a year old
