Marketplace available on a website

If adding a freeware section was a priority it would be done, they don’t make money from freeware, and hosting it costs money.

The same thing with quality control, they make money from products that sell, even the bad ones, so again no real incentive there.

If about money, it would cost them to host this page yet wouldn’t mean an increase in spending given isn’t a new marketplace. My point about freeware is because lots of people have requested this, along side regulation but haven’t had so many buy elsewhere.

There is indeed a similar wish list topic here:
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/add-a-website-we-can-check-the-marketplace-on/388163

However, that topic does mention that there would be no need to make the purchase external to MSFS.
So this wishlist is slightly different in that it is calling for the ability to make a purchase from the marketplace external to having the sim running.

Personally I am in favour of such an option, not least for all the reasons that have been given in this thread pointing out its advantages.

I am fairly certain that I would use such an external site. However, I appreciate that this is a matter of choice and there may well be those who wouldn’t use it.

Yes, I think this is a good idea too.

I would be quite happy tbh for convenience just to browse the MarketPlace on my mobile phone without booting up the PC. Any purchases could be made as usual on the PC.

Buying on mobile would of course be even better (not sure how this would work if at all on the Steam version).

I don’t have any problem with there being no freeware section. There are several good sites that already take care of that, and at least one of them has several addon managers that makes it quite easy to include/exclude certain addons when you are running the sim.

not a good idea i think., i dont need it.

I’m not a marketplace user but so many aspects of this suggestion have merit that it has my vote.

MS/Asobo really need to step up their game here, there should be some way of both accessing the “game marketplace” outside the game itself as well as being able to see what you presently own.
(And possibly even your logbook/profile)

You would have thought that a company which is using a game to promote its integrated cloud systems and multi-platform capability would have the vision and ability to provide this already…

The way the sim is currently implemented, an online Marketplace website would need to deliver via two different avenues for Steam and Xbox/Store. This means a lot of extra work on the back end for the web dev team. But there is one alternative, and that’s a webpage where users could simply “window shop.” In other words, a site that users can browse, read descriptions and reviews (if there are any), and decide what they want to get once they’re in the sim. It shouldn’t be too hard to mirror the look of the Marketplace, and the database is already there.

OK so RadicalCavy has made his point and decided to luddite on the subject
let me put it another way
You dont need to use your mobile phone to purchase apps from Play store or Apple store
You can actually search on your computer for apps and purchase and the app will then download to your phone.
That is what OAPJRG is trying to explain and I for one think he is correct, it would be so much easier to browse the microsoft store for your addons all it needs is a key (your MSFS) account to do so just like Play store uses your mobile phone number

Is it possible to view the Marketplace outside of XBox, say on an IPad or from a PC?

Hi,
You and I appear to have similar ideas as to how the Marketplace could me made more accessible to all.
Thinking it through, I suspect that both of us may be a little bit wrong. My thoughts at this time are that the Marketplace should be on the Microsoft Store, where most of us have to go for our updates already. Thoughts please?

Great Idea -

It would be useful to have a way of accessing the marketplace without having to be in-game. This would make it possible to take advantage of sales whilst travelling or while waiting for an update to complete, when the in-game marketplace is inaccessible. For example, my download of the GOTY edition is only coming in at 0.5 Mbit/s, so I could still be downloading a week from now and miss Black Friday.

Yes, If you have addons from several sources, it’s be good to be able to check in here to see if you’ve already purchased it in-game - especially at my age!

Unless Steam and MS use different payment streams, I really don’t understand this problem. You go to this page, select and pay for your addon, and it’s made available to you via the Xbox store next time you log in to Flight Sim. Same would apply to Xbox users. After all, if you can currently upgrade from Standard using the Xbox store, it shouldn’t be too big a step to include addon purchase to that pathway.

Hi, is it possible to see All the stuff in the marketplace, without going into MSFS.?

Not that I am aware of.
You can go to other vendors, such as Aerosoft, Simmarket, JustFlight, and often right to the sites of the various developers and purchase directly from them.

I vote for it. If I had to buy Microsoft products, it would be though a dedicated website, and not their insim market.

Yes. I find it hard to believe this doesn’t already exist.

Allow reviews on there also.

If I am on the move and there is a discount going on, I can quickly lap it up on my phone itself.
