That’s probably sensible to be honest. I don’t know how much noticable the resolution jump will be, but it’s going to feel much less if you supersample the rendered image with foveated rendering enabled on the Q’Pro and of course you’ll be missing out on the georgous local dimming using the Q3 as well.
I’m moving from the G2 to the Quest 3 and for the edge to edge clarity alone it will be worth it. Pretty sure the wifi streaming can be almost as good as the DP cable in this headset. If I’m being honest though, this is a stop gap while a premium VR headset arrives.
Q’Pro aside I’m not really satisfied with the big three at the moment, Aero/Crystal/Beyond and hoping there will be something which can incorporate the advantages of all three in the next year or two.
The Q3 will hold me down until next year. It will give me time to see what will be the best headset for MSFS. The premiums headsets that are out now are a good start and I’m loving the direction it is going so far.
Headset wish
FOV
Light weight
Display port cable
Good Speakers
(NO Base Stations please)
Hopefully the sim will run better for VR by the time the new headsets comes out in 2024.
Tried the Pico 4 with Virtual Desktop, while in cockpit the images overall were great over my G2, the distance clarity was disappointing. I’m hoping the Quest 3 will trump the Pico 4 / G2
Hmm sorry but I dont agree with your theory at all. I had a QPro for a while and BECAUSE of the amazing lenses and the low physical panel resolution, everything was a lot more grainy than I would’ve liked, even when supersampling. The G2 felt much sharper (note: sharper, not clearer), probably mainly due to the higher res, but also because and it has less clarity, masking some of the “pixelation” that you see much more clearly when you have the amzingly clear QPro lenses.
So I think Q3 will have a similar effect, but at least the resolution is similar to the G2’s now.
What I’m really trying to say is that clarity (function of the lenses) and sharpness (as in higher resolution looks sharper) are two different things, and having more clarity doesn’t mean you won’t benefit from supersampling.
@SunlitAlpaca141 corrected me on this. The initial media only on had 90Hz and 120Hz (experimental) available however the developer conferences have apparently confirmed 72Hz is also available.
No worries, I was only going by what others have said. I don’t own a Quest Pro myself. I understand what others were saying was, with supersampling it was possible to get a better image quality in the Quest Pro to a G2 but I agree that can only take you so far.
It’s different with the Quest 3 though. That amount of pixels is so close, it’s going to come down to how much of the clarity is accessible across the whole panel and we know this is vastly superior on the Quest 3.
I believe you are subject to 3240 resolution bug in steamVR causing everything to be fuzzy. You’ve come from G2 and anything running in steam can’t super sample past 3240.
Just found out mine won’t be in hand until tomorrow, even though the shop had them in stock since nov 2nd. Pretty mad about it, dying to try the new lenses.
Received quest 3 today. No problems with it connecting and running. Sharper then Q2. My computer is an iMac 27 with i7, 64gb ram, 16gb AMD 5700 running windows using bootcamp. So far it is great.
72hz, 80hz, 90hz, 120hz. I find 80hz is keeper for the MSFS.
but in general, i am dissapointed. My pico 4 looks little better.
q3 has sweet spot too low and it is too small
there is huge light leak under the nose
i dont like the darker edges of the lenses
I dont know what is happening, but my anisotropic filtering setting doesent work in VR. There is no affect when i change the value from 0,2,4,8,16 whatsover. I think, there is a glitch some where atm. I think, i dont have that x16 enable atm. I did try to forve x16 via NCP, but looks same.
Do you connect it via link or wireless?
I have hp g2 and quite happy with it for now, wanted to try q3 just cause lenses suppose to be better and maybe that sweet spot but remembered how many issues I had with compressing via link with q2 long time ago don’t really want to bother.
Hi All
I have just been testing my Quest 3 after up grading from a Quest 2 and I think its very good.
The pass through is very good for VR
Alot clearer image
Blacks are better ( no god rays)
Smooth flying experience
For the price point, a very good upgrade.
AMD 5800X3D
Nvidia 4090
32GB Ram
M.2 SSD
Tested with link cable only
All’s working fine with my new, 20 hour old Q3 with msfs using Link (500mbps) and Air Link (200mbps dynamic). This is with my i913900k/rtx4090 PC and my device graphics settings at 80Hz refresh with the res slider full right. All ODT settings at default except distortion Low and mobile asw disabled. I also use OTT game profiles to turn ASW off. Pretty early days, but so far so good, touch wood, lol!
Pico 4 has better veritical FoV and already pancake lenses. You also have to give up the Pico Store. I was just curious why you moved to the Quest 3 especially when the Pico 5 is coming out in 6 months time?
I own a G2 and while I’ve had an amazing time, I’ve never really forgiven HP for the lack of edge to edge clarity which I had with my original Rift CV1 allbeit at a much lower resolution, so I’ve ordered a Quest 3.
