Because the posts are (rightfully) being hidden/removed from this thread about the phantom beta update, I wanted to come here to point out that there is no place that I could find anywhere in the Xbox Insider App that indicates user data is at risk of being wiped if one joins a Preview (aka Beta). This goes for other available previews, too.
Right now, looking at the MSFS 2024 Xbox Insider signup page the only text is “Welcome to the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 preview.” with a Join button. There is nothing here, or anywhere, in the app that indicates risk to user data.
What seems pretty clear is that there needs to be a separation of the data that is retained in the cloud save and the data that is generated by the user. Storing camera settings, photos, replays, 3rd party add-ons, etc. in a known at-risk of wiping directory seems like a very poor decision.
Even on the Xbox, there is a separation via the “Saved data” section where the save is one file and “Reserved space” is all the data that shouldn’t be destroyed in the event of a save issue. The PC user ends up with all that data in the same directory structure that is at risk of being wiped by the MS Store installation/update/cloud save management process.
