MSFS Cannonball Run Challenge (KJFK to KLAX in a GA plane for charity) [Prize from Microsoft]

@SeedyL3205 OK. Totally understand. I’m not trying to win anyway. Hope it goes really well! Again, thanks for your idea, time, and work. Happy Holidays.

Hopefully we’ll see you out there for part of it at least. Maybe jump in a jet and give us a play by play for the start and get some early predictions going..lol

Hopefully we see more big events like this coming up. I know I plan to work up the stones to give planning and hosting a shot EVENTUALLY..lol

To be fair to those that missed it, some of them might have only seen the thread recently, would have known nothing about the 12 hour extension and / or would have had to read 700+ messages to see any reminder.

Anyway your event and your rules. Hope the charity still gets lots of donations and everyone involved enjoys.

I’m with you. Late to the party but have a route and ball park atitude settings figured out. I’ll wait to see who wins and then run my route in 2x rate. The route/fls were done in perfect day mode and I completed in 21hrs/30min (using max sim rate). At the very least, it would feel like I was still part of the competition.

Welp, I’m out. Registered and ready to go, but my aircraft is kaput. One of the three fans on my Zotac Trinity 3080 has given up the ghost after only 2 months. Pretty sure I can’t run this thing on the integrated GPU :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Boo.

RMAs happen, but searching around it looks like Zotacs have a lot of fan troubles. My first and last time buying from this manufacturer.

Hey guys, unfortunately looks like I won’t be able to run the race. Keep my registration just in case I can but something came up and it looks like I won’t be able to.

Anyone planning on trying VR for this? I’m going to evaluate it with the Rift CV1 once the update hits but I doubt it will work out since I plan on using planning aids like littlenavmap and skyvector and it just seems like that would be difficult with the HMD on.

To anyone who missed the deadline for reg:

If I win the prize (which, I admit, is highly doubtful) but an unregistered pilot finishes first…then I will forward the prize onto him/her/it.

I don’t get why Seedy has closed reg so long before the race either but that shouldn’t stop anyone from coming along to compete.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have moved all the side apps to a separate computer, and use the main PC only for flying now
It’s a lot better this way, but I do have a bunch of tracking clients installed on the main rig.

for the live stream, ive done a similar thing, some apps are on my laptop instead of main pc. the only problem is showing the laptop screen on stream. the only thing i know of to do it is teamviewer although that times out after 30 to 60 minutes unless i move the mouse every so often

I believe there are specific steaming hardware that allows you to connect multiple HDMI sources and then lets you switch out the sources as required.

i dont really have the money or time to be getting one of those. that would probably be an Elgato

You can ssh into the remote machine and run commands to stop it from idling out  . That’s the geek mode enabled  .

i think it has to be done in teamviewer on the client side which would be my pc. it does give me a notification when its about to time out though. so i just have to do something when that happens

Or if you have a cat at home, place it next to it and it will ensure it never idle’s out :D..
Or put some cat nip on the track pad and the cat’s tongue will keep it up for you

Btw I been reading this pdf book, and I wished I had read it a lot earlier  .
The Cessna 172 POH

Chapter 5 (Page 149 - 169) explains a lot of interesting stuff !

There is a lot of good info in there, there is a reason we’re supposed to have a copy with us in the plane. :slightly_smiling_face:

Happy to help, I’m actually running littlenavmap on both machines, the one on the laptop will have all my flight planning info – The one on the main machine will be used to show location for my streaming, but will not reveal my flightplan to anyone dumb enough to think following my plan is a good idea
