Not me but I believe I’ve seen one of Grabber’s earlier posts saying that he does, I just didn’t realise his kids were on the same licence. I’m sure he’ll be along in good time to clear this up.
Post 5, paragraph 5 I mentioned the Microsoft Family part that makes license sharing possible.
I don’t understand the confusion, I’m honestly running out of ways to explain it. Even laying out the procedure, emphasizing the specific features that have to be utilized to make it work, seemed to do nothing but hurt feelings.
I’ll try this one last time: One microsoft account (computer login, MS store, and XBox login) cannot be used to run the same licensed copy of the sim on 2 separate devices at the same time. If you try to do this, you will be prompted to choose to play on one device or the other.
However, 2 users, with their own sepaprate and individual microsoft accounts (computer login, MS store, and XBox logins) can play the same licensed copy of the sim, on 2 separate devices, at the same time.
The Microsoft Family feature allows this to happen, only if both of the users are added to the license holder’s family on the Microsoft Family website. I am the head of my Microsoft family, I have our household’s only Game Pass account, I hold the license to the sim. My family members, through the Microsoft Family feature, have access to use all of it, at any time.
No one should be paying for multiple Game Pass accounts or buying multiple copies of licenses purchased through the MS store if they have a partner or kids who use them as well. Microsoft Family allows the sharing.
I can’t speak for those who bought their sim on Steam, I’m guessing they are out of luck. Steam may have its own license sharing feature, IDK. But for those who have the MS store purchased sim, or play through Game Pass, go set up Microsoft Family for the members of your household.
We don’t just play MSFS together. We have Sea of Thieves, Rocket League, Among Us, Apex Legends, Halo, COD, etc. All installed on everyone’s devices. All multiplayer. All sharing the same accounts and licenses. Through Microsoft Family. It’s so very, very simple.
No ones feeling are hurt, we are just wondering how it works, party for the sake of just understanding it and also because it could be useful for others including us. This family thing sounds really good.
I get it.
I spent 22 years in the Air Force as a heavy aircraft mechanic. We are not nice people.
From the age of 23 I was the lead mechanic in charge of a $40M aircraft, and the safety of all of the lives and equipment on board.
I was basically a child still when my daily signature on a piece of paper became a guarantee that that aircraft and everything on it was going to come back safely.
Sugar coating data and the sharing of information is not in my nature.
Also, I didn’t realize that capitalizing for emphasis was some sort of taboo. My bad.
I have been with this sim since day 1, and there are a ton of people who can vouch for the advice and information I have provided them on this forum. And I have had it up to here with all of the gripes, speculation, and just plain wrong advice I see every time I log in to this forum.
So I tend to keep the flowery language out of my contributions, as an attempt to keep people from taking their own liberties with the information I provide.
Hopefully someone sees this, follows the steps I laid out, and can enjoy their sim the way it was meant to be.
Exactly my point in
To which you reply:
And you wonder why people get confused?
Did we forget something?
Microsoft accounts come for free.
Seriously thank you @Grabber523 for your patience, and learning many ways to explain.
For this is a very interesting topic.
Hello. I have a question. I have MS Store Premium Deluxe Edition. Now I have set up a second account via Microsoft Family. So in our family we can now fly in pairs and at the same time via multiplayer, so we can also see each other in the simulator. One person flies on the PC and the other person flies on the gaming laptop. Everything works as it should. However, I noticed that only the Standard Edition is active on the gaming laptop (second account). Why don’t I get the Premium Deluxe Edition as well? So a lot of planes and airports are missing… I’ve checked everything, I can’t install anything anywhere to get also the Premium Deluxe Edition on the gaming laptop. It can’t be that the Family Account is limited to the Standard Edition, can it?
Thank you!
This is something I’ve been trying to figure out off and on since I got the sim. I initially bought the Steam Deluxe version for PC, then later got an Xbox Series X with Gamepass ultimate and downloaded the standard version to the XSX hoping the kids could fly with me.
I only have my account signed in to the pc and pc/Steam version. I have the kids on a single “kids” account that they all can use, which is added to Microsoft family with mine as the main account. The only way to fly at the same time (not together in multiplayer) is for me to start up first on the pc, then start it on Xbox. The Xbox will prompt the choice to stay on PC or switch to the Xbox. If selecting to stay on the Xbox, it’ll kick me offline on the pc. I can still fly, just without online functionality. Yes, this still happens if I try to start the sim using the kids account.
After seeing this, I tried logging out of my account on the Xbox itself, and was prompted with this when trying to launch the sim from the kids account (my pc was completely shut down at the time).
To summarize, I effectively have two legal licences (Steam and Gamepass), my kids are added to Microsoft family and signed in to the Xbox on their own account, I have tried with my account logged in and out of the Xbox, yet I still can’t get both of us online at the same time to fly together in world.
While writing this, I realized that even when using the kids account on the Xbox, the sim itself still had me logged in. I logged out of the sim and logged their account in, but I’m still hit with the same issues. It’s like Microsoft doesn’t see that I own two licenses, and that the kids are in the family account (which I did verify they are through the Microsoft families website).
Ok, after fiddling around with again with renewed vigor, I finally got it figured out. I have to have the XSX set as my home Xbox, THEN sign out of the Xbox completely. At that point I was able to run both sims simultaneously and see each other in it. I have a One S as well that my kids primarily use after we upgraded to the XSX, and had it set as the home Xbox for them to install games without me needing to be signed in. This could pose some issues, but may be solved by leaving my account signed onto it (but password protected). If there’s one thing I hate about these systems, it’s how stingy Microsoft is with using multiple systems in the same household.
