[MSFS2024] De Havilland Canada CL-415

Not a problem. The CL415 is what matters! Let us know if you get it working. Lots of fires to be put out this season!

Keybind for waterdrop in fs20?

I did not noticed any changes. Just installed it to see if the the illumination of the glareshield is now functional. But no. Another aircraft which is only nice to watch.

Still holding out hope for some AP additions to the CL-415! Hand flying this underpowered monster from airport to fire will be the death of me.

I don’t understand why add-on photos are shown and then everything disappears without further information. It happens often in the X-Plane community: an interesting add-on pops up, and then the developer disappears.

This isn’t a criticism, just a thought. If you need help, let us know; we’re ready to lend a hand.

I found something interesting, found a video that was taken by one of the Quebec’s SAG pilots a few years ago, and it seem that the GPS on the SAG CL-415 look like a older-style GNS430 that was placed above the middle

You could probably adapt the GNS430 in the same position as on the video if you wanted IMO

Unfortunately, it appears that the project is dead. Some awesome awesome potential it seems. Hoping to find a video or documentation so I can do some experimenting.

I will post this here because I consider it mainly a feedback to the CL-415 module in MSFS2024 because it shows some issues with the controls assignments that maybe need a rework.

Most of the movie shows how to set up the controls for throttles and conditioners in the way it makes most sense to me as a Bravo user. The ā€œtrickā€ can be adapted of course to any dual throttle or more quadrant that has detents or buttons that can be held in to one position or another.

As I say in the movie this is the current way. I know MSFS2024 evolves (even if slow) in many aspects but one can hope some of the quirks and problems will be solved - like the fact that the condition levers of this plane don’t work with the 50 normal condition levers of the sim… but only with ā€œspecificā€ one which are just 3 and currently useless  .

So without further yapping I will post the video where I explain how and why I set up the controls of the CL-415 like this and also I will post a picture for reference or for people that can’t stand me hearing yapping

Please note that I know the profiles can be exported locally. I meant at the end of video that it would be more useful to save them ALL and use them all from local storage.

Also in trying to keep the movies short I forgot to mention that almost like a bug the ā€œhold propeller reverseā€ function actually work (funny as almost no plane in MSFS uses this function) but only when you release the propellers from the detents and only for a split second. So if you stumble on it… don’t have high hopes… it doesn’t really work.

I will also link this post on a small thread talking about the throttles. Note that this whole post and video is a feedback on more than that.

Hi Zach. You still have all of us captivated by this possibility! Hope all is well.

Sadly, it seems the CL-415 as well as firefighting as a whole on this sim don’t garner enough attention from the devs to fix issues that are wrong with the airplanes or firefighting in general in the sim. Which is sad and irritating that a lot of us in the aerial firefighitng niche were really waiting for all the features we were promised and properly flying and operating aircraft. Sadly, the 415 is a perfect example of them leaving stuff half done and paying more attention to the tube liner aspect of this sim than the smaller niches that don’t garner as much ticket posting power traditional commercial and cargo operations do on here. Perfect example, the under performance issue for the airplane was reported when the sim first launched in November of 2024. Then a separate forum bug post was made in February and has been active since February of 2025 and it STILL hasn’t been even acknowledged by the devs despite having more than 40 votes. Clearly, there’s something wrong with the airplane. Meanwhile what most people consider more minor things like liveries for example, are being addressed simply because they get more votes. It’s a huge flaw in this report based system MS/Asobo designed. We get more useless or minor additions instead of fixing unrealistically flying airplanes for over a year. It’s not a wonder why a lot of us firefighting aviation folks went back to P3D.

It is a massive disappointment. I am hoping a 3rd party dev of quality may undertake a scooper or other relevant air frame. At least having the ability to get the community involved on editing configs or providing skins would by palatable.

I wonder if this plane had an autopilot in real life?

It is very expensive and yet we have to hand fly it for hours sounds weird

Also, in career mode, plane encounters engine malfunctions almost right away. If also this is correct in real plane, this bird must have very limited lifespan

It was an option, but most did not equip it since outside of transit between bases, it would be flown manually most of the time. I know that some in use by the civil security in france have it equipped, but the Quebec SAG CL-415 don’t have it (they do have a GNS430 GPS thought, which is not modelled in-game unfortunately)

For the engines, did not encounter much malfunctions on my side

We are developing an airtanker in our community. It’s extremely time consuming for us little guys to develop for this sim. On top of having tool kits that aren’t compatible with the latest versions of 3D modeling programs available to us like Blender. We are making an S-2F3AT (S-2T) that’s flown by Cal Fire in California. It hopefully will be near study level when complete. The maker has poured countless hours into making it as accurate as possible.

This is very exciting. Please feel free to share with us, fellow enthusiasts, in the future.

I would also love to see this but I’m not holding my breath. Back in December 2021 the MSFSAddOns published a segment about this project suggesting it was going to show up in 2022.
