[MSFS2024] De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter

The terrible engine sounds; the awful bright blue cockpit floor; poor animation effects (e.g. doors); too few aircraft varieties / types. I take your point about the transition issues from MSFS2020 to 2024, but struggle to understand how the issues I refer to can be impacted in this way.

Seems like a lot of it is tied to the way models are created/managed. The blue floor has already been identified as true to life for some airframes if it’s brand new from the factory.

Looking this up, I believe this may be so.
Being addicted to airliners, I haven’t really spent any time in it!
I was basing my answer on older knowledge, this was probably added in FS2024,and not routinely applied as yet. my bad!

Yes some 3th party developers have made it themself, like in the blacksquare duke and sws with the kodiak and pc-12.

As discussed above it seems to be implemented in some default aircraft as well.

When I use reverse throttle, the beta light illuminates differently, so at least part of it is working.

if I ignore the door effects (which are admittedly annoying) and the wing tanks not working I’m overall happy with the otter. I do hope they update it soon though, so many little bugs that feel to me like easy fixes. Although maybe in reality they are difficult.

Does anyone else have an issue with the parking brake not working? As soon as I start the engines the aircraft starts rolling - I can apply the parking brake and see the animation work but it makes no difference - the only way I can stop the aircraft is with the toe brakes.

I haven’t noticed this, but I only ever use the parking break when I’m already stopped

Yeah the C208 has it if i remember correctly

Do you happen to have Honeycomb Bravo? Check your controller settings and delete these two Parking Brake controls. These caused parking brake problems almost every plane.

I’ve been testing the default Twin Otter included in MSFS 2024, and honestly, the sound quality is really disappointing. The engine doesn’t sound anything like the real one — it’s flat, repetitive, and lacks the distinct turboprop character the real DHC-6 has.

When switching to the third-person (external) camera, the sound often restarts completely, as if the audio loop resets instead of transitioning smoothly. It breaks immersion instantly. The external sound balance is also off — too quiet in some angles, too harsh in others — and there’s barely any difference between idle, taxi, and climb power settings.

Well, then it should have been on a model which can be had factory fresh these days, i.e the -400 which they did not include. The -300 is old and I feel should have been modeled to look like an old version. And also, where is the long nosed version? I think I have seen that much more than the short blunt nosed version we have right now.

I save the camera position, but when I press F, it goes back to the default view. :frowning:

Sorry, I’ve got no idea what you have ā€˜F’ bound to, but it sounds like something is not being saved properly.

Can you input values into the twin otter’s GPS using your keyboard on PC? I see those little keyboard symbols near all the input fields but I canā€˜t click on them. Is there another way to activate keyboard input I am not aware of? I donā€˜t need that mechanism and love the realistic way during initial programming but itā€˜s quite handy if you want to type in a direct to in no time. Otherwise, I would let the co-pilot to it.

I too am at a loss as to why we got the short-nosed prototype instead of the far more ubiquitous long-nosed version. Doesn’t make it a particularly versatile aircraft for pilots or repainters since barely anyone operates the original variant.

Something the community really should have been consulted about because I can guarantee, 99% of simmers would have preferred the long-nose.
