My 2070 SUPER VR settings and suggestion (Reverb G2 - WMR)

What does the developer mode FPS window is saying then for render res. and post-process res.?

3152x3088 for both game and post. 25-35 FPS. I am actually gob smacked. Its like looking at a monitor!

@Ianrivsmith, can you clarify your settings? Youā€™re running OXR100 with beta unchecked, and TAA100 in the sim? Did I get that right?

(Of course thereā€™s the little matter of your 3090 vs. my 2070 Super, so I may not even be able to think about using your settings, but for intellectual curiosity purposesā€¦)

Yes of course. Iā€™ve just tested over Sydney with some real weather and some heavy manual weather. Man I am still gob smacked! This is what I imagined VR to be like!

I have OPENXR with use latest preview unselected.
I have OPENXR with custom render scale unchecked.
I have OPENXR motion reprojection disabled.

In sim I have:-

Render Scaling = 100 TAA
Terrain Level Of detail = 100
terrain Vector data = Ultra
Buildings = High
Trees = High ( I also have an extended tree mod installed)
Grass and Bushes = Medium
Objects level of detail - 100
Volumetric Clouds = High
Texture resolution = Ultra
Anisotropic filtering = 16x
Texture supersampling = 6x6
texture Synthesis = Ultra
Water waves = High
Shadow maps = 1024
Terrain Shadows = 1024
Contact shadows = medium
Windshield effects = High
Ambient Occlusion = low
Reflections - medium
Light shafts = Medium
Bloom = On
Glass cockpit refresh rate = High

3152x3088 for both game and post. (checked with dev tool)

Hi guys why I only have with my strix 3090 and I9 10900K utilization ~60%?

EDIT: 99% now, I could clarify and have the same setting like @Ianrivsmith and it look perfect in KLAX with 32-35 FPS

So if I am running SteamVR with my G2 that would also be important for me as well?

Yes it does work because even through SteamVR, WMR Portal loads its assets (or at least it used to be). However there is a caveat explained in the reddit.

At this stage Iā€™m not sure there is any benefit for using SteamVR + WMR for SteamVR for FS2020, unless youā€™d need to use the SteamVR ovelays, because you canā€™t even use the new SteamVR 6:1 motion smoothing (it is only for the SteamVR compositor).

Maybe when they release their next WMR for SteamVR with the resource sharing implementation (instead of the resource copying as it is now), it will make a difference.

Iā€™ll have to give this a try but knock down some settings as I have a 3080 so need to watch the VRAM!

Hey this is awesome!! @Ianrivsmith Canā€™t wait to check it out, out of interest what other PC/OS settings do you have?

Hags off.
Game mode off.
Msfs added to the high performance section in windows.

@Ianrivsmith, OK, Iā€™m gonna try that with OXR, and the settings Iā€™m already using in sim. Where are you getting these resolution numbers from? Dev tool? You mean dev mode in the sim?

Gonna jump back in and retry my N. Vegas to Reno trip, I just was taking off and crashing into some unseen obstacle on RWY 7. Not the first time thatā€™s ever time happened, but itā€™s frustrating as hell because thereā€™s NOTHING THERE!!!

Bleh.

Vegas to Reno in a WT CJ4, take two! Andā€¦ ACTION!!

Both Mixed Reality Portal and FS2020 are drawing onto my screen while Iā€™m using the VR. The game seems to assume someone is watching my screen while my VR headset is on and I donā€™t understand why it makes that assumption. It seems like both these programs drawing something on my screens would drastically reduce my FPS. Donā€™t they? If not, how are they not? Doesnā€™t it cost GPU processing power to draw them on my monitors (while I canā€™t even see them!!!)? If it is, how can I turn these off while playing so as to increase my fps?

The 3D world is rendered once, which costs time, and then displayed twice, which costs virtually nothing:

Yes, G2 full resolution is amazing. Thatā€™s the setting I use when I fly at high altitudes, where motion reprojection is not essential. You can literally read everything in an A320.

People have different specs, expectations and opinions which is always a good thing:)
Thereā€™s no doubt G2 at 3K looks spectacular but OXR100/TAA100 with such high in game settings is a wishful thinking for anyone with GPU lower than 3090. I donā€™t know if itā€™s mainly due to VRAM, clocks or both but thatā€™s the reality. Beside that, once you taste 90Hz (native or reprojected), itā€™s hard to say that 25 fps is heaven like experienceā€¦

Of course, but Iā€™d rather have crystal clear 25-35 FPS than a blurried but smooth 90hz. To each their own

@Ianrivsmith, well, no strange runway collisions this time (though they did give me a different runway, maybe they were still cleaning up the blood from the invisible moose I ran into the first time?), but the performance was, well, amazing.

I ran at 100TAA, with your suggested OXR settings and my visuals were great, inside and out. My panel was as clear as a 2D monitor, as was the outside world.

Before I get TOO excited, though, I need to try something busier during the day, so Iā€™m gonna redo the flight from KLAS, which I have the Flytampa version installed. If it can survive that, then weā€™re cooking. I donā€™t expect it to conquer places like Charles De Gaulle, which is the toughest place that Iā€™ve found on the entire planet (from a VR visuals performance perspective), but if it can even just be usable there, Iā€™ll be a happy camper indeed.

Weā€™ll know soon!

But for N. Vegas to Reno at dusk/night (I sort of fell asleep and overflew Reno by letā€™s call it about 250 miles, but did make it back with some help from a mid-air refueling) it was superb. Now if Nvidia would write some drivers specifically designed to help VR in FS2020, then the sky will be the limit, and I may be able to even stop thinking about looking at a 30-series (if I can ever find one anywhere) to help me out.

So my next test will be KLAS-KRNO during daylight hours.

I want to say a HUGE thank you for this post. Iā€™ve been struggling with VR with my Reverb G2 and your post mostly straightened things out. I feel I can tweak things in from this starting point. I went from completely unusable VR to mostly stutter free VR in the Citation business jets.

Iā€™m a pilot and really just want to fly instead of diddling with MSFS settings. Seems like MSFS could benchmark your system and automatically adjust the optimal settings.

In any case you have returned my enjoyment.

Thank you!

@KevyKevTPA Are you still on the 2070 Super or did you get a 3090?

Edit_Update: Overlooked the following at the end of your just previous post:

So great if it works for 2070 Super. Hope for me, too!
