New PC Build

Happy Friday all,

Hoping to have new system middle of next week, some final tests and checks.

looking at my build specifically RAM - 4GB Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 6000MHz CL40

The CL number is quite high, the only issue this they don’t have a lower CL rating RAM in stock at 64gb.

I can drop to 32GB CL 30 or 32 or keep it 64GB ram at CL 40?

What would you guys recommend doing?

If you’re looking to build a PC, I recommend buying the parts from Amazon or similar stores. Once you have everything, you can ask a friend with technical knowledge or take it to a computer service center to assemble it for you.
Store where you want to buy the PC has too limited a selection of parts to build the PC.

I get that. Unfortunately, I don’t have the expertise nor do I know anyone. They have built my last 3 machines and trying to locate parts can time consuming and with the current market quite difficult.

I’m not a hardcore gamer it’s a hobby for an hour or 2 a week

All I need to know is to reduce the ram to 32 with a lower Cl count or stay at 64gb

Swapping 64GB CL30 RAM for CL40 or 64GB for 32GB is a hard no from me. CL40 is straight-up slower and that downgrade would throw off the entire build’s performance.

Could you please ask “PCspecialist” if they would install a new 64GB RAM kit in the PC build you selected if you send new RAM to them?

Apologies for the confusion, I currently have a 64gb CL40. They don’t have 64gb CL30.

They only have CL 30 2 x 16gb sticks.

My question is, the get the lower CL of 30 should I just drop to 32gb CL 30 as they don’t have 64gb CL 30 in stock

Ask “PCspecialist” if they would install a new 64GB RAM kit in the PC build you selected if you send new RAM to them.

// You can purchase RAM we recommend
// and send it to PCspecialist for installation

Thank you I will suggest that.

If not, it’s easy enough to change ram right if I decide to do it myself?

Yep, installing RAM is fairly straightforward, but you just need to be careful not to bend the motherboard that’s already installed. Also, after installing the new RAM, it’s recommended to reset BIOS to default settings.

Wait. Wait some more.
Wait until you can get 64GB DDR5-6000/CL30.

Hi all,

Finally got my PC - thank for all the support.

For setup, should I be configuring or changing anything in the BIOS to improve performance?

Any advice or tips be greatly appreciated

Just two from here:

  1. Make sure your memory has the correct speeds and profile assigned (EXPO for AMD and XMP for Intel if suported).

  2. Ensure you have the latest BIOS installed.

Thank you.

I will check this and revert back.

Is a BIOS update a big task?

Go to your motherboard support page and read the instructions, then download the BIOS update. It can sometimes be a bit confusing. For example, mine told me to download the file to the root of a USB drive formatted FAT32, then rename the file.

I recommend doing the update from within the BIOS, not from within Windows.

But if you follow the instructions, you’ll find that your BIOS won’t let you make a mistake, unless you do something really careless.

Also, be prepared for your computer to take a long time to boot the first time after a BIOS update. It’s doing memory training, and I’ve had it take 10 minutes before. Kinda scared me, as I thought maybe I bricked my computer.

Just be patient, and be precise. Screwing up your BIOS can be one of the worst things you can do. But don’t be afraid. Most motherboards these days have a recovery option.

Measure twice, cut once…

If you are not completely confident, call the motherboard manufacturer’s tech support number and they will/should be more than happy to take you through checking your BIOS version and upgrading if necessary. Also have a 16Gb or 32Gb USB flash drive handy when you call. This should be a free support call since you just bought their product.

Congrats your new system. Thanks. --Redeye

Hi all,

Been using the PC over a month now and generally happy with performance but I feel it could do a little.

Do you have any suggestions on windows settings or general settings I should adjust for example settings within the BIOS.

Like asking how long is a piece of string I know…:joy:

Tell us what you’ve already done that has changed anything from stock.

And I’d add what’s your current performance… maybe it is fine after all!

Hi all,

Apologies to restart this old thread.

I am making the move to 24 soon as I am getting 5gb fibre tomorrow.

To have the same set up as core install on “C” drive but community folder and add one on 4TB SSD “E”

Is it same process?

Thanks for the help as always
