Nexrad and on-board weather radar returns are cloud based and not precipitation based

i raised a ticket for this issuse several months ago, i had screen shots, and even had screen shots from early in the alpha testing when it was working properly and showing precip only and i didnt hear anything then got a notication the ticket was closed out! I think Asobo is listining to the topics but not looking at all the detailed feedback at. The Citation Longitude is a perfect example of this, they acknowledged it had flight model issues, they said they would fix it in a update, update came out and it fixed maybe 2% of the issues and they marked it done and moved on dispite there being tons on post and zendesk reports of full detail on just exactly what was broken.

It’s been a while since this topic was discussed. I’m just curious if there is any progress with respect to having a working weather radar. Springtime storms are upon us in the northern hemisphere. Radar would certainly be helpful to have implemented properly in the sim now. Also, addon planes need Asobo’s help with this too.

Every plane which has a weather radar, has a weather radar in the Flight Sim. (Airbus, Boeing, Cessna 208, TBM930, and Citation CJ4.)
I have read that the King Air is not equipped with one in real life.

No they do not. They have cloud radar. Not weather radar that detects precipitation, as it’s supposed to.

King Airs most definitely have weather radars.

FS2020 does not have any kind of weather radar. Instead FS2020 has some fictional cloud radar which is as arcade as it can be. Should you desire to fly realistically, never turn it on. You don’t do anything with it and it doesn’t give you the information that you need.

Well, this is an issue that goes back ages. FSX has never been capable of supporting a weather radar, and P3D isn’t much better. Not sure about XPlane but i think it’s the same. The only way a true weather radar simulation was achieved was by using ActiveSky in combination with PMDG airliners (i think the Majestic Q400 could tap into that as well).

But now the technology should be there. Rain is a volumetric effect, if i’m not mistaken. All the information ActiveSky used to provide should now be available in sim. Maybe the Working Title guys can pull something together.

Negative sir. X-plane 11 did have weather radar.

I still unhappy with the new weather radar (After update 1.16.2.0) even a lot of people claimed for that kind of adjustment .but most of them use VFR it’s logical they need from the radar to show them rain but for airliner like 787 or 747 it important to have more information. in real 787 ,747 etc the weather radar can show turbulence ,cumulonimbus , etc because it’s dangerous to flight into a zone of turbulence or a cumulonimbus with this heavy planes .those informations allow the pilot to change sometimes the route .So to make every one happy we need from asobo a weather radar more realistic and adjustable with two modes at least .

I don’t think the sim is that far in development to be able to show turbulence on weather radars. From what I’ve gathered, even wind shear isn’t modeled yet.

This item was delivered in Sim Update 4 (1.16.2.0).
