This thread is a great example of how much the texture qaulity has dropped over the years

@BattyPlains5374 That was the first thing I noticed. The complete drop-off not even 2 miles into the distance. Would look at least a bit better if the sim properly depicted haze like in the real photo.

i comprehend your enthusiasm but overall they look pretty meh, look at the object draw distance, there ain’t no objects father than a mile or so.

2025 Edition. Check previous posts for even more comparisons.

Featuring 8 countries.

1440p MAX graphics - this year on MSFS 2024.

As usual: date/weather/time synced as best as/when possible. Post process editing may be done to match colour/lighting.

MSFS 2024 can sometimes look even better than the real world, thanks to how cohesively it presents everything. Matching a real-world photograph to the simulator, however, is an incredibly complex task,

it requires precise knowledge of altitude, position, and simulated focal length (especially since MSFS only gives you meaningless values from 0 to 100). I didn’t have any of that, so I just play by guessing. No matter what I try, the simulator image always ends up looking rather squeezed, as if it were shot with an anamorphic lens.

I think this is because of the zoom level you have set. The default has always seemed to be too far out for me.

If you tell me which airport that is I can give it a shot matching it and see if there are any squeezing issues. For starters your virtual camera position is in a very different spot compared to the original photo.

This thread is a great demonstration of how unrealistic the sim is due the lack of depiction of haze.

Hi, Rome Ciampino, original photo was captured at 24mm prime lens on APS-C camera (~39mm), which after correction do not have any meaningful distortion, I tried multiple positions, hights, variety of field of view settings, but no, it just never match right…

Thanks! It was a bit tricky, but here is my attempt:

Just perspective matching straight out of the sim:

And here with some edits to somewhat match the exposure and processing of the photograph:

I wish they would get rid of the procedural floating lights and use real light sources. Would bring it much closer to the real picture

That’s actually pretty good! So, I need to practice way more.

All this makes clear to me that ground surfaces should reflect the sunlight way more.

The clearer the colour of the surface (ground, grass, walls…), the brighter those couleur should be.

Reality pictures look brighter than the sim obviously.

Would love to see that improved in the sim unless it has too much impact on fps.

Cheers
