Out Skerries (EG78)is the Crown Jewel of the UK Update

Very late to this party but I finally flew to Out Skerries tonight on my tour of Scotland. I only fly in VR, and this place was incredible, I must have spent 40 minutes just walking around, one of the best places I’ve visited in two years of owning this sim. Definitely the best addition to WU3 indeed.

One slight annoyance, Orbx Great Britain North landmark pack adds a low quality version of Asobo’s excellent Skerries lighthouts and fuses them together which is very annoying. I have posted in their forum to see if they can remove their lighthouse, completely not needed seeing as every user has WU3 anyway.

The first time I tried it, SU3 I think, it was almost photorealistic as I approached. One of the best in the sim I think, at least for first party content.

Agree, discovered this area quite late on but so impressed, everything looks so detailed and real, the rocks, sea surf around the rocks, houses, buoys, fishing boats and associated equipment. Cracking effort, again i fly with live weather, the approach is challenging and rewarding. The pond at the end of the runway can be driven through and creates a small wake if you over shoot!

Most of these are reposts as I’ve not been back for a while

I do enjoy small islands in the sim. Superspud’s Scilly Isles are fantastic, and Boundless Simualtions did a really nice job on Alderney in the Channel Islands. There used to be a lovely freeware model of Lundy Island on flightsim.to but the author sadly removed all of his content. He did a summer version with loads of planes and people representing a flying event, and an out of season one for when its quiet. Both were great.

There’s a payware version of Lundy by “Neils Tours”. It’s bundled with a pile of other similar grass strips around GB. I haven’t made the plunge yet, so I can’t speak to its accuracy, but it looks pretty good in the pics.

Yes Out Skerries is impressive. It would be nice to know who created this, what references hey used. It’s amazing. More like this please Asobo.

Wow! I know where I’m headed to once my Sunday ops in the 320 are done. Anyone think a Staggerwing will fair well taking off and landing at EG78?

Just avoid crosswinds and tailwinds and it should manage fine.

I fully agree with topic title. Returning to that location repeatedly. The rock formations are so beautiful and realistic, wonder how they are done, so many details, not normal elevation mesh but individually 3D modeled or something? MSFS24 promised enhanced rocks and cliffs, hopefully even close to this, even partially.

When PS2 arrived, news referred to photorealistic games, well… This is close to that term, after some decades.
