VR!!! … if it’s cable fed that’s where to start
Did your USB tests reveal anything? I’ve tried similar things on mine due to the past known issues with Ryzen Gen3 CPUs and (e.g. 5950x). Tried usb3 / usb2 ports and keeping only the mouse and keyboard plugged in. It made no difference for me. Still a CTD extravaganza
I have disconnected the VR only, left everything else in, the reboot hasn’t happened, but still CTD with driver timeout.
BUT! I also changed a lot of other things too, so I cannot pinpoint this to the VR being plugged in. I will plug it back in once I’m happy with how MSFS is working, and report back with an edit to this post.
Update 1: Oct 12
The reboots haven’t happened with six flights so far with the FBW A32NX and G1000 NXi, everything else defaults. It is now CTD only with driver timeout errors.
List of changes (in no particular order):
- Changed the cord from the PSU to the wall to the OEM cable.
- Thoroughly cleaned the PC with compressed air and duster (but appears inconsequential since I keep it clean anyway).
- Changed a GPU power cable to the adjacent plug in the PSU end (modular PSU).
- Full reinstall of the AMD Driver.
- Un-checking the “automatic restart” thanks to advice from @TenPatrol.
- Unplugged VR thanks to advice from @MichaMMA @ITDreamFly @Redeyesjm @DensestSnail693.
- Changed the RAM in the slots (no unplugging, just pulled them out, cleaned them, and back into the four slots in a different order - they are all the same stick basically), thanks to advice from @CasualClick.
Things verified to work:
- MEMTEST on the RAM with >140,000% coverage, shows zero errors. Thanks to advice from @somethingbrite.
- PSU test with AIDA64 stressing all components, resulted in no errors after 2 hours.
Flight testing results as follow:
- CYHU - CYTZ IFR TBM930 Default (no CTD, no reboot)
- CYTZ - CYGK VFR TBM 930 Default (no CTD, no reboot)
exited sim, voluntarily - CYUL - CYHU IFR C208 G1000NXi (no CTD, no reboot)
back to main menu, without exiting sim - CYUL - CYYZ IFR A32NX Flybywire (no CTD, no reboot)
back to main menu, without exiting sim - CYQB - CYUL IFR A32NX Flybywire (no CTD, no reboot)
exited sim, voluntarily - CYUL - CYWG IFR A32NX Flybywire (CTD at ~20 minutes, ~10 minutes after T/O)
- CYVR - CYLW IFR A32NX Flybywire (CTD at ~35 minutes, ~10 minutes before destination)
- CYUL - CYWG IFR A32NX Flybywire (no CTD, no reboot)
New Update:
- CYUL - CYWG - CYXE IFR A32NX Flybywire (no CTD, no reboot)
Sitting on the ground at CYXE, PC reboots about four hours in, literally having done nothing over the four hours.
Update 2: Nov 25
I have changed nothing, and the reboots no longer happens.
There are huge lags at points, but I have not had a single crash. Having said that, most of my flights were well under 1 hour long, so that may have something to do with it.
SU7 also happened, so no idea if the “fixed crashes in various situations” had anything to do with it. If the reboot/crashes come back, I will report again.
Clock the ram down a little or increase the voltage a little.
The FS is a bit bitchy on Ram OC.
I’ll try that next.
I thought I solved the reboot problem, but sitting on the ground have left it running for four hours, it rebooted out of nowhere. Great.
Amazing what someone needs to do to play MSFS 2020 !
Asobo needs to introduce this intensive course in MSFS 2020 troubleshooting and award a professional certificate.
