Got a Crystal light 1 week ago. Finally found a setting to be sharp overall, was a struggle. Even got a set of spare lenses to try (will try soon)
I have an issue with FS2020 vs 2024…
At 30-35 Fps FS2024 is smooth
At 60-70 fps FS2020 is not smooth. I cannot make the lock to half frame rate function to work, either using PimaxPlay or Pimax XR (that normally is not required anymore since OpenXR is handled natively in PimaxPlay.
Is there a way to get a smooth frame rate at 45 fps with locking to half frame rate, if yes how do you make the functionality to work ?
Also the fixed foveated rendering does not work from pimaxplay, need to run it with OpenXR toolkit. Normal ?
Edit : Just realized using OpenXR toolkit FPS display that I had half of my flat screen display fps inside the helmet… what the heck ? Super fluid on my flat display 2 half screen and choppy inside… WTF ?
I checked on FS2024 and the flat screen display fps and headset fps are the same (much lower than FS2020 but still).
having some issues with the pimax crystal og suddenly with su2beta.. before i was using client 1.14 and smart smoothing with a nice 45 fps most everywhere.
Now even at a baren spot (on runway anyway), i avg 40 fps, i tried various changes no luck.
Also, the foveated rendering checkbox seems to have no effect on frame rate (should quad views be turned off in pimax client when thats on (edit: i tried the newer client for fun as well, it wont even let you enable it there)? should foveated be turned off in openxr toolkit when its on as well, i did turn this off in openxr toolkit at least, tried it both ways).
Anyone else experiencing these symptoms? Also, dlss is showing v3 310.1 (there seem to be newer ones, though it is on J which i preferred before) Im also on the slightly older 572.16 nvidia driver
QuadViews Foveated Rendering is CPU intense, if you have older CPU you may become CPU limited.
Fixed Foveated Rendering is 100% MSFS internal, settings in PimaxPlay, PimaxXR and OpenXR Toolkit doesn’t matter. You can easily check if it works - at dawn/dusk/night you may be able to see the high res. box boundaries. Even easier if you have the registry modification, displaying the DLSS version in the bottom left corner - with FFR enabled you will see it twice (also in the corner of the high res. box).
I would not mix FFR in sim and in OXRT - they are based on different methods.
If you are on OG Crystal you may enable Dynamic Foveated Rendering by enabling Eye Tracking in Pimax Play and PimaxXR. DFR will not improve performance over FFR, but you will stop seeing the high res. rectangle edges (the rectangle will be following your gaze).
Thanks, yeah ill also turn on the advanced fps display in the toolkit to see, im on a 14900k, so i dont know if thats the issue
I do recall seeing the dlss overlay move around in the lower left in vr, not sure if it was twice or not /doubled. Im assuming it doesnt matter then if Quad views is checked off in the pimax client (or even if using the client native openxr vs the pimaxxr control center)
Anyone know of a fast way to verify DFR/Quad views is working in VR, i swear i used to be able to see the perimiter in certain situations before, but now i’m not so sure? or maybe that was the 2d view representation
The easiest way is to enable the DLSS HUD, using nVidia Profile Inspector. That way you will see two lines of text, one at the bottom left of the low res area and another one in the lower left corner of the high res rectangle (which will move with your gaze, if you have eye tracking enabled on Pimax OG Crystal headsets).
There is also a downloadable registry app that you can run to turn the DLSS HUD on or off; you need to log in to download it, but registration is free. Also, the app description shows the registry mod if you want to just edit the registry yourself.
Can anyone confirm with 2024 and Foveated turned on in sim (and in my case also FFR set to on in openxr toolkit), with the OG Crystal, your fps in VR near NYC,
For instance, KFJK (no addons, bare bones and community empty) is about 28-38 looking around in the cessna 172 default (avg of say 30 fps), this with DLSS performance and no smart smoothing.
I feel like this value is really low, in 2020 i swear i was getting near steady 45.
If i enable the nyc times addon, it decreases by about 3 fps.
Same deal above NYC, im getting about 38-44 with an avg of 41-42 with defaults + dlss + dfr
My pimax client is set to 1.0 for the render resolution as i’ve always had it.
I’m on a 14900k + 4090 OC Gigabyte at the moment (this same area spikes my cpu to 99C during loading of KJFK)
Looking for an apples to apples compare here to know if something is amiss
The in-sim Foveated Rendering (QuadViews) is completely independent from the FFR in OpenXR Toolkit. As the Rookie is now outdated and no longer maintained I would recommend not using it anymore and not using FFR in OXRT on top of the in-sim Foveated Rendering.
The in-sim Foveated Rendering removes a load of load from GPU, but adds some load to CPU. You may investigate in Developer Mode if you are GPU or CPU limited.
I would also recommend running DLSS 4 Performance mode at native Crystal resolution (OXRT disabled) with the latest profile (K).
Yeah i’ve tried turning the openxr toolkit off (FFR), made no change. Also strange, now if i turn off quadviews in sim, i get everything pushed to one eye and cant even test with it off anymore. Anyone else with that issue?
Either way, kjfk premium rest defaults/bare in 2024 vs 2020 is 30 vs 55 .. quite a huge change.. however, i think its the area in 2024, as london seems to be about 48-50 at eglc, more in line for what id expect in the c172, but kagc (random barren area) is only 46, very weird considering london/nyc is more intense.
MSFS2024 has more graphics details (like 3D trees or fauna which is FPS killer). So it will generate lower FPS on similar settings as MSFS2020. Hoverer, for me (Crystal OG, 4090, 9800x3D) MSFS2024 on DLSS 4 Performance, profile K, native resolution, lower FPS in MSFS2024 seems smoother than higher FPS in MSFS2020. If it is smooth enough for me I simply turn off FPS indicator and just fly.
I agree if smooth go with it, but i use smart smoothing with pimax 1.14 for now (cant tolerate the ground blur otherwise),need to hit 45 or 36 minimally everywhere in an ideal world. So i’ve turned off SS to test various areas after the update, i keep most settings on medium or some even on low in 2024, except clouds/textures at high, grass low, that sort of thing. If i try a the low setting option in 2024, it bumps to 40 at kjfk
So i think its just some weird default + premium kjfk issue, ill probably move on and forget it for now and avoid there
Have a 5090 coming monday + super in june, hoping for better all around
UPDATE: i gained about 10-12 fps in VR with the 5090 vs 4090, so thats a win in msfs2024, though 2020 is still 20-30 fps better in vr (as it was before)
