PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

Hi guys!
I have been using the PMDG 737-800 and I installed a couple of PTP liveries using the Operations Center but I noticed that when I use the custom livery aircraft I would have to add fuel during flight because it was burning fuel way too fast.
I am using simbrief for flight and fuel planning and the fuel never ran out with included liveries.
What is the solution?

Are you sure the different liveries are not just toggling units lbs/kg?

I know, but i already have the realworld scenery Kodiak, which is fine. It has a bit more detail on the Alaska buildings, but misses the a lot of the naval stuff.

I did not check that and it can be the answer…
Do I change it in the FMC?

Yes. It most likely has been set up from a particular aircraft config/airframe.
You can check/change units in FMC. I usually go check this before starting a flight.

FMC → MENU → PMDG Setup → Aircraft → Displays → PG9 (FUELS & CTRLS) → METRIC/IMPERIAL UNITS

There are also EFB unit preferences now under-

Electronic Flight Bag → Settings//Preferences Icon → General Preferences → Weight Unit

NOTE: If you use the new simbrief import function on FMC, it will automatically convert simbrief units from say LBS->KG on the import process for you. However if you are inputting values manually just check first what units your air frame/livery is using as default in FMC.

If you want to do it manually:
1st step you have to do is to calculate if it is possible to tanker for the whole return flight. Mostly you are restricted by landing weight, so the way to calculate is
MLW (Max landing wieght) + Tripfuel - ZFW ( Zero fuel weight).
Make sure to leave a little buffer in case of higher payload (ZFW).
It is also possible to be restricted by takeoff performance, landing performance or tank capacity, so you also have to check these.
To calculate tankering fuel: Take the desired fuel for the flight BACK, then add the tripfuel from the FIRST flight + taxi fuel (in AND out) from first flight.
Merry Christmas

anyone feel like posting the screenshots here?

I posted them in a more appropriate thread this morning:

3 hr flight. Crash to desktop on final approach. I think this may be the first CTD I’ve had with this sim, prior to this, just had freeze ups that required me to close the program. Only new additions were an Alaska Airline livery (from JV Aviation, I’ve got a bunch of his other work, never had any issues) and a freeware Fairbanks, AK airport (that was my departure point so I’m thinking that was not the issue either). If the ■■■■ sim is going to crash on me, I wish it was up front instead of at the conclusion of a long flight…

I posted a longer a longer request for help over in the VR section, but this part is specifically PMDG 737 related:

Is anyone using this jet in VR? If so, are they getting flyable FPS? I’ve got a new build system with an i7-14700, 4080, 32GB DDR5, and an old Rift S I dusted off, but am getting 40FPS in a rural location inside the cockpit with all graphics settings turned to the lowest possible levels. The sim FPS counter says I’m Mainthread limited. Outside the jet, I’m getting stable 80FPS. (ASW is turned off based on some internet searching I did)

The DA-40NG and SR22T are getting 80FPS inside and out.

Is this normal for the 737?

Posted the same in the bug section some time ago, had a lot of ctds repeating the same flight. Still have not figured out what the Problem was, I have never tried this specific route again. For me it crashed not only on final approach but seconds before touchdown.
Horrendous to see it is still happening. In my experience this only happened with the 737 and the fbw320

I haven’t had a sim CTD (*) in a very long time - a couple years lately. Not since I stopped over-clocking my CPU. The same CPU settings would be rock-solid stable in literally any other program I could throw at it, but in this sim? CTD any from starting a flight to hours en route. Once I stopped OC’ing, my sim crashes stopped.

Similarly, I have not had the PMDG 737 virtual cockpit freeze issue recur since a complete uninstall/reinstall cycle of the aircraft a month or so ago.

(*) SU13’s first builds excepted; CTDs were very widely experienced in the beginning of that beta program.

The same here. No CTD in months. And I am aware about those freezing problems with PMDG only from here, I consider myself lucky. I never opt for beta’s though.

I just checked today. I stand corrected. LNAV/VNAV on approach for ILS. SPD INTV and it stayed in FMC SPD. It only changed to MCP SPD on G/S capture.

Anyone noticed the N1 / EGT gauge in the MFD now looks a lot different. Instead of being a continuous grey colour it’s now in segments like a pie chart

That was a bug early in the beta for SU14. Make sure you’ve got the sim and the plane fully upgraded to the latest versions.

Yeah all updated. On Xbox series X, just realised this is the PC thread

Yes, I can confirm this big is still present on xbox

That’s because you’re on XBox, which - due to issues with the tablet - is several releases behind.
