PMDG 737 Discussion (PC Version) (Part 1)

You know what I just read April 9th was the roll out of the first 737

Where did you read that?

I always play a documentary in the background while flying in the flight simulator and the one I watched was actually on the 737 and it said the first one (the 100 series) flew April 7 1967 we actually passed the Boeing 737 700 first flight day which was February 9th 1997 and the 800 first flown in July 1997

Forget documentaries, go to a primary source.

I was playing a documentary about the 737 during one of my flights, the first 737 first flew April 9 1967, the Boeing 737 700 came out February 9 1997, and the Boeing 737 800 came out July 31 1997 for some first flight dates

The -100 is my absolute favorite. It’s so tiny and looks so svelte with its small diameter turbojets.

“The Jet Age”

Watch the Netflix Documentary “Downfall” about the 737 Max…. Other than the scapegoat on Mcdonnell Douglas which is a fabrication, its prettty telling of the MCAS issues with the Boeing 737 Max.

they should age them according to your usage and then have a cleaner in at major overhaul

That is perfect!

That livery!!!

Why do you think they scapegoated McDonnell Douglas? Not disagreeing or agreeing, but MD had a history of knowing about flaws (DC10 Cargo door) and not dealing with it very well. Not saying this makes the scapegoating right, but it does not look good either.

In the context of the documentary “Down Fall” the Boeing engineer very clearly states that when the MD Boeing merger happened, a lot negative things happened and the “Do it right” mentality was changed to “Do it now, and do it quickly and cheaply” Who knows if this is really true, but again it did not look good.

Time stamped video and an interesting watch:

Hey guys,
is there a hypothetical release date or some pricing info for this aircraft as today? I know PMDG model are quite expensive, but cant find nothing about those questions on the web.. Thanks in advance!

Sincerely,
Filippo

I don’t think so. No set release as of yet and in regards to price rumours are around 70 dollars starting with the 700 variant I believe.

Again this has not been confirmed.

I saw Robert replied to a comment on page 5 of the their announcement thread saying the MSFS model of the plane flies better and more realistically than on any of the other platforms they work on. Apparently they could also do some things they couldn’t do under P3D. I found that very interesting given how many threads and comments we see in various places about how MSFS just isn’t capable of having realistic airliners or planes with proper flight models.

These were prior to MCD merge, lots of Boeing issues prior to merge if you look up their history.

MCD, had a issue with a cargo door there was more to the story it was not the entire culture was not a cover up culture. I used to work for them for 10 years. The Chicago DC 10 crash was due to AA airlines use of a forklift for replacing an engine, that sagged during lunch break, and snapped a large bolt / Pin prior to flight. The DC 10 took the hit not American Airlines, and American went on to buy 200 MD80’s. So I don’t think they were worried about MCD products…

I worked for McDonnell Douglas, prior thru merger, We had a very open policy on safety issues on MD11, C-17 and 717 programs I was part of. Never saw this culture issue first hand or heard anything about it.

I think it was more from the arrogance in US History making aircraft, that they did not recognize the Airbus competition until it was too late. Then it was the plane must be sold, no delays…. The 787 now has its issues, look up new FAA issues on 787.

Harry Stoncipher CEO was a company merger hatchet guy, he just came into the company to sell it when John McDonnell wanted out…. Look up his history in mergers prior to coming to MCD.
John Mcdonnell became the largest shareholder of Boeing after the merge, but just cashed it out..

Here is a cool piece of MCD history, take a look at the MD-12 in a google search. Looks pretty similar to another plane…. That would of been great to be part of but the merger knocked out few really cool planes coming down the design line..

I worked for Boeing during that time period and let me just say, since this is all VASTLY off-topic, that Boeing folks at the time had a greatly differing view of Stonecipher’s song and dance and all the baggage that came with the McDAC merger.

Folks, please don’t wander off. This thread was kept open to talk about the PMDG product. The history of the jet, while fascinating, has no direct impact or relevance to what PMDG is publishing. Stay on topic.

Those comments will continue, Randazzo’s comments regarding flight model will be ignored as marketing speech only, and the fact that there will be small differences to the P3D version (or even the Zibo) will be used as evidence that MSFS can’t do good flight models.
